The Brander Patio Infrared Heater is a transportable outdoor heating appliance designed to provide warmth through infrared heat diffusion. It operates on natural gas (NG) and features a stainless steel burner controlled and adjusted by a gas control knob. The heat diffusion is enhanced by a reflector positioned above the burner.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Operating Pressure: 7.0" W.C.
  • Maximum Output: 45,000 BTU/H
  • Minimum Output: 25,000 BTU/H
  • Fuel Type: Natural Gas (NG)
  • Certification: SP Certified for Outdoor Use Only

Usage Features

Safety Rules and Cautions:

  • Gas Leaks: If gas is smelled, immediately shut off the gas supply, extinguish any open flames, and if the odor persists, contact the gas supplier or fire department.
  • Flammable Materials: Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors or liquids near the heater or any other appliance. LP cylinders not connected for use should also not be stored in the vicinity.
  • Outdoor Use Only: This heater is strictly for outdoor use.
  • Installation and Maintenance: Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service, or maintenance can cause injury or property damage. All installation, operating, and maintenance instructions must be read thoroughly.
  • Environment: Do not operate in an explosive environment. Keep away from areas where gas, vapors, or flammable liquids are present.
  • Pre-Use Check: Verify that no part of the heater is damaged and inspect the gas hose before use.
  • Reflector: Never use the heater without the reflector installed.
  • Clearances: Respect minimum clearances from combustibles: 24 inches (61 CM) from the sides of the reflector and 18 inches (46 CM) above the reflector.
  • Surface: Always place the heater on a level, stable, and hard surface.
  • Movement: NEVER move the heater while it is operating or still hot.
  • Cleaning: Never clean with abrasive, corrosive, or flammable cleaners. Do not paint the heater or any of its parts.
  • Gas Supply: The gas sources must be turned off at all times when the heater is not in use.
  • Hot Surfaces: Children and adults should be made aware of hot surfaces on the heater.
  • Obstructions: Clothing and other accessories or objects are not to be hung on the heater, laid on, or near it to dry. Do not obstruct the ventilation opening (hand hole) on the cylinder cover.
  • Professional Service: Installation, maintenance, and repair should always be performed by a qualified gas technician.
  • Wind: In case of high winds, shut off the heater and gas supply, remove the reflector, and store the heater.
  • Radiant Heat: Objects left under an operating heater will be subject to radiant heat and could be damaged.
  • Ventilation: Provide fresh air ventilation at all times.

Assembly Instructions: The assembly process involves several steps, starting with disassembling the base and then attaching the pole, weighted box, and burner head. A critical step involves ensuring the black plate at the bottom of the weighted base remains in place and acts as a washer to increase pole stability. The natural gas hose (not included) is attached to the heater head and run down the pole.

Installing Wheels (Optional): Wheels can be installed for easier portability. The parts include screws, nuts, wheels, brackets, and bolts.

Operating the Heater:

  1. Ensure the control knob is in the OFF position.
  2. Open the valve for the fuel supply.
  3. Turn the control knob to the "N" position.
  4. Press the igniter button multiple times to light the burner.
  5. Once lit, continue to press and hold the control knob down for 30 seconds to engage the thermocouple.
  6. If the burner does not light, release the control knob, turn it clockwise to OFF, wait 5 minutes, and repeat steps 2-3.
  7. If the igniter fails, the heater can be manually lit by inserting a match through the opening at the base of the burner.
  8. Adjust the flame to the desired temperature by turning the control knob counter-clockwise.

To Turn Off:

  1. Turn the control knob fully clockwise.
  2. Turn off the gas supply at the source.
  3. If the heater will not be used for long periods, remove it from the gas source.

Maintenance Features

Leak Testing:

  • A mandatory leak test is required during partial assembly (step F), before first lighting, and after any repairs or maintenance.
  • Procedure: Mix equal parts water and soap in a spray bottle and apply generously to all connections and the hose. Bubbles indicate a leak.
  • Safety: NEVER leak test with an open flame or while smoking.
  • Resolution: If a leak is detected, turn off the gas supply completely, re-tighten the connection, and repeat the test. If the leak cannot be repaired, contact the retailer, gas supplier, a qualified gas technician, or the local fire department. Regular leak testing is recommended for safety.

Preventative Care and Maintenance:

  • Burner Inspection: The burner should be regularly inspected for debris such as insects and spider webs to ensure long-lasting enjoyment.
  • System Checks: Periodically check for leaks in the system.
  • Professional Installation: Installation of this appliance should be performed by a certified gas technician in conformity with all building and municipal codes.
  • Replacement Parts: Replacement parts must only be original parts.
  • Modifications: Do not modify this heater in any way.
