Overview

The Breville Q™ (BBL820) is a high-performance blender designed for household use, offering a range of features for preparing various foods and drinks. It emphasizes safety, durability, and versatility, with a focus on efficient blending and ease of maintenance.

Function Description:

The Breville Q™ is a powerful blender equipped with a heavy-duty motor and a unique blade system, designed to handle a wide array of blending tasks from delicate mixing to intensive milling. It features five electronic speed settings (MIX, CHOP, BLEND, PUREE, MILL) and four preset programs (PULSE | ICE CRUSH, SMOOTHIE, GREEN SMOOTHIE, SOUP) to optimize performance for specific ingredients and desired textures. The blender is capable of crushing ice, making smoothies, blending whole fruits and vegetables into smooth beverages, and even creating hot soups from ambient temperature ingredients. Its "MILL" setting is particularly suited for grinding grains into flour, making nut milks, and achieving finely blended mixtures. The "MIX" setting is designed for more delicate foods, using a folding motion to combine wet and dry ingredients. A "CLEAN" function simplifies post-use cleaning by removing most ingredients from the jug walls and blades.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Jug Capacity: 2.0 Litre BPA-Free* copolyester jug. This material is impact and shatter resistant, and dishwasher safe.
  • Motor: Heavy-duty motor providing high velocity power and high torque for efficient blending.
  • Blade System: Extra-wide, heavy-duty blade and bowl system with 4 powerful stainless steel blades contoured to the base of the jug for maximum cutting power, including liquid-free processing.
  • Speed Settings: 5 electronic speed buttons (MIX, CHOP, BLEND, PUREE, MILL).
  • Preset Programs: PULSE | ICE CRUSH, SMOOTHIE, GREEN SMOOTHIE, SOUP.
  • Display: LCD indicator with timer, which counts down for pre-programmed settings and counts up for speed dial settings.
  • Overload Protection: Resettable thermal fuse for motor protection, indicated by a flashing "OVERLOAD PROTECTION" message on the LCD.
  • Power Plug: Breville Assist™ Plug with a finger hole for easy removal.

Usage Features:

  • Ready Mode & Sleep Mode: The blender powers on to "READY" mode by pressing the ON | OFF button. After 2 minutes of inactivity, the LCD powers off and the ON | OFF button flashes red. After 5 minutes, the blender powers off completely.
  • CANCEL Function: Stops any pre-set program or selected speed setting and resets the timer to 0.
  • Inner Measuring Cup: Removable for quick addition of ingredients during blending.
  • High Performance Lid: Designed to withstand high velocity tasks, vent steam, and prevent splatter.
  • Tamper: Included accessory to help make frozen desserts, nut butters, and dips by pushing thick foods into the blades. It should always be used with the blender lid on (inner cap removed).
  • Hot Liquid Blending: The blender can handle hot liquids, but users must ensure the inner measuring cap is in place to protect from splashing and to relieve pressure. Boiling hot liquids should never be blended; ingredients should be cooled to room temperature first. A reduced capacity limit must be observed for hot ingredients to prevent burns.
  • Dry Milling: Capable of milling hard ingredients like spices, nuts, sugar, coffee, and grains into flour or powders. Note that dry milling may cause cosmetic scratching and clouding to the inside surfaces of the jug, but this does not affect performance.
  • Nut Milks: Instructions are provided for making nut milks from raw or soaked nuts, including straining through a nut milk bag.
  • Nut Butters: Roasting nuts before making nut butter is recommended to release natural oils and enrich flavor.
  • Whole Grain Flour: Freshly milled flour should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to prevent rancidity.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the motor not starting, uneven chopping, food sticking, and motor overload.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning After Use: It is recommended to clean the jug and lid immediately after use to prevent food from drying on the blades. This involves rinsing, adding warm soapy water (1-2 drops of detergent), and pressing the "CLEAN" button.
  • Stubborn Stains/Odours: For harder to clean, sticky, or thick ingredients, or to remove stubborn food stains and odors, a mixture of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar can be used. After letting it froth, scrub with a soft dishwashing brush, add warm water, let stand, and then run the "CLEAN" program.
  • Citrus Rind Warning: Oils in citrus rind can damage the jug material if exposed for too long; immediate cleaning after processing citrus rind is advised.
  • Motor Base Cleaning: The motor base should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and dried thoroughly. Abrasive scouring pads or cleaners should not be used on the motor base or jug.
  • Dishwasher Safe: The blender jug, tamper, and lid are dishwasher safe. The jug can be placed on the bottom shelf, while the tamper should be on the top shelf.
  • Storage: Store the blender upright with the jug assembled on the motor base or beside it. Keep the lid off to allow air circulation and do not place anything on top.
  • Authorised Service: All maintenance other than cleaning must be performed by an authorized Breville Service Centre.
