SUBJECT: UPDATED SERVICING INFORMATION (SUPPLEMENT TO APSI #76)
MODELS: 400000, 440000, 490000 OHV VERTICAL SHAFT ENGINES
Recent changes have been implemented on the subject engine models, including updated torque values and
a new governor gear thrust washer. Please retain this APSI for service reference until the repair manual is
revised and re-issued.
Crankcase Cover Bolt Torque
The torque value has been increased on the crankcase cover bolts. Ensure that the mating surfaces are
clean and dry, then after installing a new gasket, install the bolts and step-torque them in the sequence shown
(Figure 1) until the final torque is achieved. Final torque is 300 lb-in (33.9 Nm).
