      If your Briggs & Stratton Portable Generator engine won't start, shuts down while running, or starts and runs roughly, here's what you can check: * Ensure the engine switch is set to ON (I). * Check and fill the crankcase to the proper oil level, or place the generator on a level surface. * Clean or replace the air cleaner. * Refuel the generator if it's out of fuel. * If the fuel is stale or has water in it, drain the fuel tank and carburetor and fill with fresh fuel. * Make sure the spark plug wire is connected to the spark plug; replace the spark plug if it is bad. * If the engine is flooded, wait 5 minutes and try re-cranking.
