5) Hook the knot of the emergency start cord
into the notch on the flywheel that is oppo-
site the starter shaft.
Next, wind the cord clockwise in the groove
of the flywheel. Place the start cord be-
tween the notch of the flywheel and the
starter shaft.
6) Continue winding the cord clockwise in the
flywheel groove, making one and a half full
windings with the cord.
7) Turn key switch ON.
8) From a secure position in the boat, pull
hard on emergency starting cord to start
engine.
Repeat procedure, if necessary, until engine
starts.
9) Refasten flywheel guard in place by push-
ing the three fastening tabs back onto the
fittings.
If equipped, snap engine cut–out switch teth-
er cord to secure place on clothing. Proceed
immediately to nearest landing for service.

area when pulling on emergency starting
cord, especially behind you.

Contact with a rotating flywheel can
cause severe personal injury. Use
extreme care in re-fastening the flywheel
guard on the fastening tabs. Keep hands,
hair, and clothing away from coming in
direct contact with rotating parts.
