Open the output tray, then open the front
cover. The print head holder automatically
moves to the center.
Press the Power button.
Plug the power cord into the back of the
printer and connect the other end to a
power outlet.
Remove all shipping tape from the front
and sides of the printer.
Write down the serial number located to
the right of the print head. You will need
this later to register the product.

Remove the black ink tank (BCI-24 Black)
from its package and pull off the orange
protective cap.
NOTE: To avoid spilling ink, do not touch
the bottom of the tank once you have
removed the protective cap.
Insert the black ink tank into the slot on
the right, then push in until the ink tank
locks into place.
Repeat the procedure for the color ink
tank (BCI-24 Color), inserting it into the
remaining slot.
Close the front cover, attach the paper rest
and pull out the output tray.

IMPORTANT: Be sure printer is
off before continuing, or the
computer will attempt to install
the printer driver before the
printer is ready.
Connect one end of a USB cable (not
included) to the computer, the other to
the printer.
Turn the printer off.
Remove the print head from its package.
NOTE: Do not touch the electrical contacts
on the back and bottom of the print head.
Raise the gray lock lever on the printer.
Slide the print head into the holder until
it is securely seated.
Do not press it down.
Lower the lever until it locks into place.
Remove the orange protective cap.

Summary

Prepare the Printer

Remove Shipping Tape

Remove all shipping tape from the front and sides of the printer before proceeding with setup.

Connect Power and Turn On

Plug the power cord into the printer and a power outlet, then press the power button to prepare.

Prepare Print Head Compartment

Open the output tray and front cover, allowing the print head holder to move to the center.

Record Serial Number

Note the serial number located inside the printer, to the right of the print head, for registration.

Install the Print Head

Remove from Packaging

Carefully remove the print head from its package, noting the tear notch for opening.

Remove Protective Cap

Remove the orange protective cap from the print head, avoiding touching contacts.

Insert and Secure Print Head

Slide the print head into the holder until seated, then lower the gray lock lever until it clicks.

Install the Ink Tanks

Prepare Ink Tank

Remove the ink tank, pull off the protective cap, and avoid touching contacts or spilling ink.

Insert Ink Tanks

Insert the black and color ink tanks into their respective slots and push until they lock into place.

Connect the Printer To Your Computer

Connect USB Cable

Connect one end of the USB cable to the computer and the other end to the printer.

Install Printer Driver (Windows)

Prepare for Installation

Turn the printer off, close applications, and insert the setup CD-ROM.

License Agreement

Read and accept the License Agreement to proceed with the installation.

Run Setup Program

If the setup program does not run automatically, use the Run command to start it.

Printer Port Detection

Turn the printer on when prompted for printer port detection to allow automatic connection.

Complete Installation

Follow on-screen instructions, click OK on termination windows, and restart if prompted.

Install Printer Driver (Macintosh)

Prepare for Installation

Turn on your Mac and printer, then insert the setup CD-ROM.

Locate Printer Driver

Navigate the CD-ROM to find and double-click the printer driver package (i470D.mpkg).

Install Software

Click Install, confirm with administrator credentials, and click Continue Installation.

Install Utilities

Access the CD-ROM again to install the Memory Card Utility by double-clicking BJUtility.mpkg.

Complete Installation

Follow on-screen instructions and restart your computer if prompted after installation.

Align the Print Head

Prepare for Alignment

Place a sheet of blank paper in the paper rest to begin the alignment procedure.

Access Alignment Tool (Windows)

Via Control Panel or Printers folder, right-click the printer, select Printing Preferences, then Maintenance tab.

Access Alignment Tool (Macintosh)

Open Print Center from Utilities, select the printer, choose Configure Printer, then Print Head Alignment.

Start Alignment

Click OK when prompted to start the print head alignment process.

Perform Alignment

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the print head alignment for optimal quality.
