Do you have a question about the Caple PH500H and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Caple PH500H is a hydronic plinth heater designed for integration into kitchen cabinetry or similar household and light commercial environments. It functions as a heat exchanger, utilizing hot water from a central heating system to provide warmth, and also offers an air circulation mode for use without heat.

Function Description:

The PH500H operates by drawing hot water from a central heating system through a heat exchanger. A fan then circulates air over the heated exchanger, distributing warm air into the room. The unit features a control panel with two switches: a top switch for selecting between "Summer mode" (fan only) and "Auto" operation, and a bottom switch for selecting fan speed (Off, Low, or Boost) when in heating mode. In "Auto" mode, the fan will only operate when the central heating hot water circulating through the heat exchanger reaches or exceeds 43°C. When the central heating system switches off and the water temperature drops below 43°C, the fan automatically stops. For air circulation without heat, the top switch can be set to "I" (Summer mode), allowing the fan to run continuously until manually reset.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Test Pressure: 10 bar
  • Maximum Working Pressure: 8 bar (1Mpa)
  • Electrical Supply: 220-240 V – 50 Hz
  • Water Connections: 15mm compression
  • Heat Output: 3057-3979 Btu (0.9 - 1.17kW)
  • Fuse Rating: 3 amp
  • Dimensions for Plinth Cut-out:
    • Width (A): 360mm
    • Height (B): 96mm
  • Recommended Airflow Gap: 20mm between the top of the plinth and the shelf above.

Usage Features:

  • Control Panel:
    • Top Switch:
      • "I" (Summer mode): Fan only, for air circulation without heat.
      • "0" (Auto): Fan operates automatically based on water temperature.
    • Bottom Switch:
      • "0" (Off): Fan off.
      • "I" (Low): Low fan speed for heating.
      • "II" (Boost): High fan speed for heating.
  • Automatic Operation: In "Auto" mode, the fan intelligently starts and stops based on the central heating water temperature, ensuring efficient heating only when needed.
  • Summer Mode: Allows the unit to function as an air circulator during warmer months, providing a cool breeze without engaging the heating element.
  • Easy Installation: Designed for straightforward installation into a plinth cavity beneath kitchen cupboards. Includes flexible hoses with isolation valves and a stainless steel fascia grille.
  • Safety Features: Requires electrical connection via a double pole 3 amp fused spur and must be earthed. The appliance and its accessible parts can become hot during use, so care should be taken to avoid touching heating elements. Ventilation grilles should not be blocked to prevent fire hazards.

Maintenance Features:

  • Dust and Lint Removal: Maintenance is primarily restricted to removing dust and lint from around the unit.
  • Electrical Isolation: The electrical supply must be isolated before any maintenance is carried out.
  • Professional Servicing: For any electrical parts or other maintenance requirements beyond basic cleaning, a Caple approved engineer or highly competent person(s) should be used.
  • System Venting: The unit includes an air vent bleed screw at the front top left corner to release any trapped air from the heat exchanger, ensuring optimal performance. This process should be performed carefully, using a cloth or sponge to catch any water.
  • Grille Cleaning: Harsh abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers should not be used to clean the grille, as this may damage or scratch the surface.

Safety Warnings:

  • This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, provided they are supervised and given appropriate instruction.
  • Children should not play with the appliance.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance should not be carried out by children without supervision.
  • Children less than 8 years of age should be kept away unless continuously supervised.
  • The appliance and its accessible parts become hot during use; avoid touching heating elements.
  • Do not block the ventilation grille to prevent fire hazards.
  • Keep all flammable materials away from the appliance.
  • It is dangerous to alter or modify the specifications of the appliance in any way.
  • The appliance is intended for household and similar applications, including staff kitchen areas, farm houses, hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast environments.
  • Ensure the supply cord is not wedged during installation. If damaged, it must be replaced by a Caple service technician or similarly qualified persons.
  • Ensure the appliance is switched off before any cleaning or maintenance.
  • This plinth heater must not be fitted in a bathroom or other high humidity area.

Troubleshooting:

  • Fan not running: Check if the power supply is switched ON, check the fuse in the fused spur, and verify wiring connections.
  • Heater not switching on (when central heating is on): Ensure the top switch is set to "0" (Auto) and the bottom switch is set to "I" (Low) or "II" (Boost). Check if the unit is air locked and use the bleed valve to release air. Balance the central heating system if installed on the same circuit as panel radiators, and increase the circulating pump speed if required. Increase the boiler temperature.

The Caple PH500H is designed to be a reliable and efficient heating solution, seamlessly integrating into modern living spaces while providing effective warmth and air circulation.
