Preparing the resin
Your workflow for adding resin to the cassette is different for one-part and two-part resins. This is because you have to combine
two-part resins first to activate them.
To find out how much resin you need:
Carbon’s software calculates the volume of resin you need to add to the cassette by summing the:
•
Volume of the part
•
Volume of the supports
•
Volume needed to cover the bottom of the cassette
It then adjusts the calculated volume based on the specific properties of the resin.
To prepare the cassette:.
To reduce resin spills on the printer, always dispense resin at your workstation and carry the
cassette to the printer.
1.
Inspect the top and bottom surfaces of the window while holding it up to the light at an angle.
2.
If you see a smudge or streak, slowly and gently pass an acetone-soaked towel once across the area, applying even
pressure.
To add one-part resin to the cassette:
If you’re using a one-part resin, you can pour it straight from the bottle into the cassette because it requires no mixing. As long as
you add more resin than you need, you don’t have to measure the volume accurately because you can reuse the resin.
To add two-part resin to the cassette:
Most resins come in two parts that you combine as you dispense them into the cassette. When dispensing, it’s essential to select
the right dispenser, tip, and dispense speed for your specific resin, so consult with your CTP for these details. After dispensing,
you have a limited time to use the resin. This duration is the resin pot life. Beyond the pot life, resins become too thick for
successful printing and you should discard them.
