INSTALLATION
UNPACKINGMove unit to final location. Remove plastics wrap
from unit being careful not to damage or cause scratch to the unit.
Check the shipment against shipping list and remove unit protective
covering. If the unit has been damaged, file claim with transportation
company and immediately notify Concepcion-Carrier or its authorized
Dealer.
CEILING MOUNTED INSTALLATION
Select a suitable location for the unit. For example, use
Kitchen or Bathroom ceiling spaces. (See Fig. 6)
Make sure that there is enough ceiling clearance between unit
and slab. Check unit’s dimensional drawing. Clearance should
also be allowed for ceiling acoustic treatment and piping.
To design steel frame for unit’s base, do not place unit directly
on the ceiling. Use a strong hanging suspension when
installing the steel frame to slab.
Ensure there is sufficient clearance between hanging rods
and cabinet access panels, so that service work can be
carried easily. See the back page drawing for details.
Place the unit onto the steel frame and make sure that the
unit is leveled. Use vibration isolators between unit and steel
frame. Do not use rubber blocks as isolators.
Vibration isolators are also required for water pipe and
refrigerant tube connections. Care should be taken with
refrigerant piping to avoid any transmission of noise and
vibration to the ceiling or walls. Provide enough pipe flexibility
before fixing unit to the structure.
Provide access panel in ceiling. Make sure the panel is
located near the unit for easy maintenance and servicing.
After the unit is installed and pipe work are completed, be
sure to insulate the unit’s surroundings with acoustic
treatment. An acoustic type insulation can be used for
additional sound reduction.
CAUTION
Consult local building and National Electrical codes for
special installation requirements. Check that electrical data on unit’s
nameplate correspond to job site electrical supply. Check that field
power supply is sized for the units and additional accessories like water
pumps, cooling towers and indoor units.
FLOOR MOUNTED INSTALLATION
Select a suitable location for the unit. For example, use
kitchen or balcony spaces. (See Fig. 7)
Make sure that enough space clearance for unit. Check unit’s
dimensional drawing. Clearance should be also allowed for
acoustic treatment and piping.
To design a compartment complete with access panel or door
for maintenance and servicing the unit.
Use vibration isolators between the unit and floor. Do not
place the unit directly onto the floor.
After the unit is installed and pipe works are completed, be
sure to insulate the unit’s internal compartment with acoustic
treatment.

Do you have a question about the Carrier 07KHP and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the 07KHP Water-Cooled Split Condensing Unit, a product of Concepcion Carrier Air Conditioning Company. It is a water-cooled split system designed for air conditioning applications, with various models ranging from 1.0 to 7.5 tons in rated capacity.

Function Description:

The 07KHP unit is a water-cooled split condensing unit that works in conjunction with an indoor fan coil unit to provide cooling. The system utilizes refrigerant to absorb heat from the indoor space and transfer it to a water loop, which then dissipates the heat, typically through a cooling tower. This split system design allows for the condensing unit to be placed remotely from the indoor coil, offering flexibility in installation. The unit is designed for efficient cooling, with an emphasis on proper installation and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Important Technical Specifications:

The 07KHP series includes models 012, 018, 024, 040, 060, and 090.

  • Rated Capacity: Ranges from 1.0 tons (013 model) to 7.5 tons (090 model).
  • CDU Power Input: Varies from 1.08 kW (013) to 6.45 kW (090).
  • Net Weight: From 52 kg (013) to 93 kg (090).
  • Refrigerant Type: R-22.
  • Compressors: Rotary type for models 013, 018, 024, and Scroll type for models 040, 060, 090.
  • Plate Heat Exchanger: Made of stainless steel, with a quantity of 1.
  • Water Inlet/Outlet: 25.4 mm (1") FPT.
  • Refrigerant Connections (Flare Type):
    • Suction: 12.7 mm (1/2") for 013/018, 15.8 mm (5/8") for 024/040, 19.05 mm (3/4") for 060, and S-28.6 (1-1/8") for 090.
    • Liquid: 6.35 mm (1/4") for 013/018, 9.52 mm (3/8") for 024/040/060, and S-15.8 (5/8") for 090.
  • Power Source (Nominal): 208/230V-1Ph-60Hz for models 013-060, and 230V-3Ph-60Hz for model 090.
  • Permissible Min-Max Voltage: 197-253V.
  • Refrigerant Control Device: Capillary Tube for models 013-040, and Capillary*/Accurator** for models 060-090.
  • Condenser Water Inlet Temperature: Needs to be controlled at 29.5°C (85°F) for optimal performance.

Usage Features:

The unit offers flexibility in installation, supporting both ceiling-mounted and floor-mounted configurations for the indoor unit. Proper piping and wiring are crucial for safe and efficient operation.

  • Piping: Refrigerant tubes should be of correct size, straight, and suspended to avoid vibration transmission. Slack should be left in tubes to absorb vibration. Water piping requires proper sealing, vibration isolators, and field-installed accessories like air bleed valves, dirt leg pipes, and strainers. The water system needs chemical treatment to maintain cleanliness and minimize scale.
  • Insulation: Both suction and liquid lines must be insulated.
  • Electrical Connections: Units are factory wired for the voltage shown on the nameplate. A fused disconnect switch, readily accessible and lockable, must be provided. Wiring must comply with local codes. For 3-phase units, voltage imbalance must be within 2% to prevent damage.
  • Control Circuit: The control voltage from the fan coil unit must be 230V. Models are equipped with a High Pressure switch for compressor protection, which is auto-resetting. Some models include a time delay for compressor start-up.
  • Refrigerant Charging: Charging is done by superheat method. Tables are provided for determining the correct superheat based on entering water temperature and indoor coil wet-bulb temperature.
  • Operation: Before start-up, all wiring, covers, panels, and piping must be checked. The water system should be flushed, chemically treated, and the water inlet temperature maintained. All valves must be open. To start, close the field disconnect switch, set the room temperature below ambient, and wait for the compressor time delay.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and efficiency of the 07KHP unit.

  • Evacuation and Dehydration: This is a critical service procedure. The system must be evacuated to 29" Hg vacuum to remove air and moisture, which can cause corrosive acids and reduce efficiency.
  • Leak Test: After evacuation and charging, a halogen leak detector (or soap solution) should be used to check for leaks in all piping. Any detected leaks must be repaired after refrigerant recovery.
  • Cleaning Heat Exchanger: A 5% phosphoric acid solution can be used to clean the heat exchanger, followed by flushing with fresh water.
  • Lubricant: Compressors contain factory oil. Refill oil charge is for service use after the compressor has been drained, and should be done using corresponding compressor maker approved specs.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting chart is provided for diagnosing cooling cycle issues, covering problems like compressor not running, compressor cycling on overload, and insufficient cooling. This chart helps identify root causes such as faulty power supply, low refrigerant charge, dirty air filters, restricted ducts, and defective components.
  • Service Clearances: Recommended clearances are provided for ease of service and maintenance access.
  • Access Panels: Remove unit access panels for internal servicing and maintenance.
