Overview

The 40MUAA Air Handler is a fan coil unit designed to provide quiet and maximum comfort in indoor environments. It is available in sizes ranging from 18K to 60K. When matched with an outdoor condensing unit, the air handler not only offers cooling and/or heating but also filters and dehumidifies the air, contributing to a more comfortable indoor atmosphere.

Function Description

The Air Handler operates in several modes to suit different comfort needs:

  • FAN ONLY Mode: In this mode, the system primarily filters and circulates room air without actively changing its temperature. This is useful for improving air quality and circulation without heating or cooling.
  • AUTO Mode: The system automatically adjusts to either cool or heat the room based on a user-selected set point. This mode is recommended for single-zone applications. In multi-zone setups, using AUTO changeover might cause an indoor unit to enter STANDBY mode (indicated by two dashes on the display) until all indoor units are in the same mode (either COOLING or HEATING). It's important to note that HEATING is the system's priority mode, and simultaneous HEATING and COOLING operations are not permitted.
  • HEATING Mode: In this mode, the system heats and filters the room air to provide warmth.
  • COOLING Mode: The system cools, dries, and filters the room air, effectively reducing the indoor temperature and humidity.

Usage Features

The Air Handler can be controlled using either a wireless remote control or a wired controller, both of which are provided with the unit.

  • Wireless Remote Control: The wireless remote is primarily intended for use by the installation contractor to adjust airflow settings according to static pressure curves during installation.
  • Built-In 24V Interface Standard: This feature allows the air handler to be controlled by a third-party thermostat (field-supplied), offering flexibility in system integration.

Auto Start Function: In the event of a power failure while the unit is operating, the Air Handler stores its current operating conditions. Once power is restored, the unit automatically resumes operation under those previously stored conditions, ensuring continuous comfort without manual intervention.

Energy Saving Recommendations: To enhance the efficiency of the ductless system, several practices are recommended:

  • Thermostat Setting: Select a comfortable thermostat setting and maintain it, avoiding frequent adjustments.
  • Filter Maintenance: Keep the air filter clean. Depending on indoor air quality, frequent cleaning may be necessary.
  • Sunlight Management: Use drapes, curtains, or shades to block direct sunlight from heating the room on hot days.
  • Timer Function: Utilize the TIMER function to limit the unit's run time.
  • Airflow Obstruction: Do not obstruct the air intake on the front panel.
  • Timely Activation: Turn on the air conditioning unit before the indoor air becomes excessively uncomfortable.
  • Temperature Settings: Avoid setting the unit to extreme temperature levels.
  • Window/Door Management: While cooling, close curtains to block direct sunlight. Keep doors and windows closed to retain cool or warm air.
  • Object Placement: Do not place objects near the air inlet and outlet of the unit.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: Clean the air filter every two weeks.
  • Louver Adjustment: Adjust the louvers properly to avoid direct airflow.

Maintenance Features

Regular care and maintenance are crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your Air Handler.

Cleaning Your Indoor Unit:

  • Safety First: Always turn off the unit and disconnect its power supply before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
  • Filter Removal: When removing the filter, exercise caution to avoid touching metal parts, as sharp edges can cause cuts.
  • Cleaning Method: Do not use water to clean the inside of the indoor unit, as this can damage insulation and lead to electrical shock.
  • Filter Drying: Do not expose the filter to direct sunlight while drying, as this can cause it to shrink.
  • Filter Cleaning Frequency: The filter prevents dust and other particles from entering the indoor unit. Dust buildup can reduce efficiency. For optimum efficiency, clean the air filter every two weeks, or more frequently if you live in a dusty area. Replace the filter if it is heavily clogged and cannot be cleaned.
  • Animal Hair: In households with animals, periodically wipe down the grille to prevent animal hair from blocking the unit's airflow.
  • Filter Cleaning Steps:
    1. Remove the filter cover.
    2. Remove the air filter.
    3. Clean the air filter by vacuuming its surface or washing it in warm water with a mild detergent. If using water, the inlet side should face down and away from the water stream. If using a vacuum cleaner, the inlet side should face the vacuum.
  • Unit Surface Cleaning: Use only a soft, dry cloth to wipe the unit clean. For stubborn dirt, a cloth soaked in warm water can be used.
  • Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Do not use chemicals or chemically treated cloths, benzene, paint thinner, polishing powder, or other solvents, as these can crack or deform the plastic surface.
  • Water Temperature: Do not use water hotter than 104°F (40°C) to clean the front panel, as this can cause deformation or discoloration.
  • Washing Restrictions: Do not wash the unit under running water, as this creates an electrical hazard. Clean the unit with a damp, lint-free cloth and neutral detergent, then dry it with a dry, lint-free cloth.

Maintenance – Long Periods of Non-Use: If you plan not to use the air conditioner for an extended period, follow these steps:

  1. Clean all filters.
  2. Turn on the FAN function until the unit dries out completely.
  3. Turn off the unit and disconnect the power.

Maintenance – Pre-Season Inspection: After long periods of non-use, or before periods of frequent use, perform the following:

  1. Check for damaged wires.
  2. Clean all filters.
  3. Check for leaks.
  4. Ensure nothing is blocking the air inlets and outlets.

Outdoor Unit Maintenance: Any maintenance and cleaning of the outdoor unit should be performed by an authorized dealer or a licensed service provider. Similarly, any unit repairs must be carried out by authorized personnel. Improper repair and maintenance can lead to water leakage, electrical shock, fire, and may void your warranty.

Fuse Replacement: Do not substitute a blown fuse with a higher or lower amperage rating fuse, as this can cause circuit damage or an electrical fire.

Drain Hose and Wiring: Ensure the drain hose is set up correctly to prevent leakage, property damage, fire, and electric shock. All wires must be connected properly to avoid electrical shock or fire.

Troubleshooting: In case of issues, refer to the troubleshooting section in the manual before contacting a service company. If a problem persists, contact a local dealer or customer service center, providing a detailed description of the malfunction and the unit's model number.
