Overview

This document describes the installation, start-up, operating, and service and maintenance instructions for a Carrier 58SP0B/58SP1B furnace. This furnace is a non-communicating, single-stage, variable 25-speed, ECM motor, 4-way multipoise unit designed for use with IntelliSense™ technology. It is designed to burn natural gas and can be converted to propane gas.

Function Description:

The Carrier 58SP0B/58SP1B furnace provides heating for residential and light commercial applications. It utilizes a variable 25-speed ECM motor for efficient airflow and integrates with IntelliSense™ technology for optimized performance. The furnace is multipoise, meaning it can be installed in upflow, downflow, or horizontal left/right configurations, offering flexibility for various installation scenarios. It is designed to be a non-communicating, single-stage furnace, providing reliable heating.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Numbers: 58SP0B and 58SP1B.
  • Motor Type: Variable 25-speed ECM motor.
  • Fuel Type: Natural gas (convertible to propane).
  • AFUE: 80% (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency).
  • Multipoise: Can be installed in upflow, downflow, horizontal left, or horizontal right orientations.
  • IntelliSense™ Technology: Integrated for enhanced control and efficiency.
  • Input Capacities: Available in various BTU/hr ratings, such as 44,000, 66,000, 88,000, 110,000, 132,000, and 154,000 BTU/hr for natural gas.
  • Electrical Supply: 115-V, 60 Hz.
  • Minimum Vent Diameter: 5 inches (127 mm) for all configurations and input ratings.
  • Minimum Vertical Vent Height: Varies by furnace input and vent orientation, e.g., 10 feet (3.0 m) for 110,000 BTU/hr downflow.
  • Airflow Data: Detailed tables provide external static pressure (in. w.c.) for various unit sizes, airflow settings (Cont. Fan, Low Cooling, Heating, High Cooling), and external static pressures (0.1 to 0.9 in. w.c.). For example, a 045V14-12 unit in heating mode at 0.5 in. w.c. can deliver 385 CFM.
  • Default Airflow Settings: Specifies default airflow settings for heating, high cooling, low cooling, and constant fan modes for different unit sizes. For instance, a 045V14-12 unit has a default heating airflow of 7.
  • Minimum Clearances to Combustibles:
    • Top: 1 inch (25 mm)
    • Front: 1 inch (25 mm)
    • Rear: 0 inch (0 mm)
    • Sides: 0 inch (0 mm)
    • Bottom: 0 inch (0 mm)
    • Supply Duct: 1 inch (25 mm)
    • Return Air Duct: 0 inch (0 mm)
    • Flue Pipe: 1 inch (25 mm)
  • Gas Pressure:
    • Inlet Supply Pressure (Natural Gas): Minimum 4.5 in. w.c. (1.12 kPa), Maximum 10.5 in. w.c. (2.61 kPa).
    • Manifold Pressure (Natural Gas): 3.5 in. w.c. (0.87 kPa).
    • Inlet Supply Pressure (Propane Gas): Minimum 10.5 in. w.c. (2.61 kPa), Maximum 13.0 in. w.c. (3.23 kPa).
    • Manifold Pressure (Propane Gas): 10.0 in. w.c. (2.49 kPa).

  • Filter Rack: The furnace is designed to accommodate a 1-inch (25 mm) filter, with provisions for adding a 3/4-inch (19 mm) filter media box for enhanced filtration.
