Overview

This document describes an instruction manual for a CarPlay Integration system designed for Volkswagen MIB systems.

Function Description:

The device is an integrated 3-in-1 module that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and screen mirroring functions. It allows users to integrate their smartphone's functionalities directly into the car's infotainment system. The system supports USB HD video and lossless music playback, including formats like APE, WAV, FLAC, MP3, and WMA. It offers two CVBS video inputs for front and rear view cameras, enhancing driving safety and convenience. The system also supports Parking Distance Control (PDC) and Flexible Parking Guidelines (FPG), providing visual aids for parking. It supplies 12V power to the backup camera. For front view display, there are two alternative ways: automatic display when shifting from "R" gear or by clicking the "DVR" icon. Additionally, it features a VGA input for specific 360 panoramic systems, offering a clearer picture. The system can be operated using the OEM buttons and the car's touch screen. It also supports future software updates via a TF card.

Compatibility:

The system is compatible with Volkswagen and Porsche models from 2012 onwards, including Golf, Passat, Polo, Tiguan, Magotan, Jetta, Beetle, Fox, and Porsche PCM4.0. It works with MIB systems featuring 5.8", 6.5", or 8" OEM screens and a CD player in the glove compartment. It is also compatible with PCM4.0 systems with 6.5" or 8" OEM screens and a CD player in the glove compartment. However, it is important to note that this interface is not available for 9.2-inch OEM radios yet.

Important Technical Specifications:

The main unit dimensions are 14310226 mm. The package components include a Quadlock Main Power Cable and a 4-pin LVDS Cable. Optional components include a USB/MIC Cable and an External Microphone (needed when the car does not have an OEM MIC).

Connection Diagram (Chart A details):

  • ACC_OUT (RED): Supplies power for DVR or other video devices. Connect this when using an aftermarket front view camera.
  • GND: Connect if there is any audio noise.
  • B+: Not applicable (N/A).
  • A_GND: Not applicable (N/A).
  • LEFT_DET: Not applicable (N/A).
  • RIGHT_DET: Not applicable (N/A).
  • CAM_POWER: Supplies 12V power for the backup camera.
  • REVERSE: Reverse detect. Connect to the reverse light if the CAM_POWER cable does not output 12V.
  • REAR_CVBS: Rear view camera video input.
  • FRONT_CVBS: Front view camera/DVR video input.
  • AUDIO OUT: AUX audio output. Connect to external audio adapter kits for sound delivery to the car radio if there is no OEM AUX function.

Usage Features:

  • Switching to Add-on Interface: Long press the "Media" button on the OEM radio. The system will switch between OEM and the add-on module UI. It will automatically switch to the add-on module UI when a phone/USB stick is connected.
  • Audio Delivery to OEM Radio: To deliver audio to the OEM radio, ensure the car stereo is switched to "AUX" mode before using the CarPlay integration.
  • Apple CarPlay: Touch the screen to control all functions of Apple CarPlay. To return to the add-on module UI, press the designated return button. To return to the previous step, use the "CAR" button on the OEM controls. The "MENU" button acts as a confirm button, and a long press (3 seconds) activates Siri. Important: Disconnect the Bluetooth connection between the phone and the car stereo when using Apple CarPlay.
  • Android Auto: To control all functions of Android Auto, use the touch screen. The "CAR" button returns to the previous step. The "MENU" button brings up the menu of the upper left and acts as a confirm button. A long press (3 seconds) activates Google Assistant. Important: Ensure the smartphone is connected to the original car stereo's Bluetooth, with "CALL AUDIO" ticked and "MEDIA AUDIO" unchecked, for phone call audio delivery when using Android Auto.
  • Mirroring: Connect an Android smartphone/iPhone with a USB cable, then enter "MirrorLink" for screen mirroring. Note: Always "trust" or "allow" when a popup notification appears. "USB Debugging" must be enabled on Android devices. The Android device must also be connected to the car stereo's Bluetooth for all audio delivery.
  • USB Multimedia Playback: Insert a USB memory stick and enter the "USB" icon to play multimedia files (music and video).

Maintenance Features:

  • Installation: All installation steps should be performed by a well-trained specialist. The ignition key should be removed during installation, and the power cable connected last after all installations are finished.
  • Cable Management: Install wiring in a manner that avoids contact with metal parts to prevent damage, fire, and shocks. Avoid contact with hot surfaces. Disassembled automotive components should be placed carefully to avoid scratching the instrument panel. Leftover connecting cables should be handled properly and not left in the car. Connecting plugs must be insulated to prevent short circuits. Cables should be connected securely to avoid affecting active components like steering wheel controls, throttle, and brake pedal. They need to be fastened to prevent dropping.
  • Power Management: Do not plug or pull connected cables while the device is powered on to avoid damaging the monitor or accessories.
  • Environmental Protection: Do not place the product in a damp environment or water to prevent electric shock, damage, and fire accidents caused by short circuits.
  • Pre-Loading Check: Before loading, start the engine and check if the interface functions correctly, if key controls are accurate, and if the vehicle interface has any scratches. Report any issues to the supplier/manufacturer.
  • Component Check: Kindly check that all components are in the box upon receiving the product. Inform the supplier/manufacturer if anything is missing.
  • Software Updates: The system supports further software updates via a TF card.

Safety Warnings:

  • To ensure driving safety and comply with traffic laws, do not operate the interface while driving.
  • The reversing surveillance function is solely for reversing assistance. Always check the entire surroundings while reversing.
