Mostaccidentsorinjuriesthatoccurinworkshopsaretheresultofnon--observanceofsimpleandfundamentalsafety
regulations.
Forthisreason,INMOSTCASESTHESEACCIDENTSCANBEAVOIDED:byforeseeingpossiblecausesandcon-
sequentlyactingwiththenecessarycautionandcare.
Accidentsmayoccurwithalltypesofvehicle,regardlessofhowwellitwasdesignedandbuilt.
Acarefulandjudiciousservicetechnicianisthebestguaranteeagainstaccidents.
Preciseobservanceofthemostbasicsafetyruleisnormallysufcienttoavoidmanyseriousaccidents.
DANGER:Nevercarryoutanycleaning,lubricationormaintenanceoperationswhentheengineisrunning.
GENERAL
Carefullyfollowspeciedrepairandmaintenanceprocedures.
Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,unbuttonedorloosearticlesofclothingsuchas:ties,tornclothing,
scarves,openjacketsorshirtswithopenzipsthatmayremainentangledinmovingparts.
Itisadvisedtowearapprovedsafetyclothing,e.g:non--slipfootwear,gloves,safetygoggles,helmets,etc.
Donotcarryoutrepairoperationswithsomeonesittinginthedriversseat,unlessthepersonisatrainedtechnician
whoisassistingwiththeoperationinquestion.
Operatethevehicleandusetheimplementsexclusivelyfromthedriversseat.
Donotcarryoutoperationsonthevehiclewiththeenginerunning,unlessspecicallyindicated.
Stoptheengineandensurethatallpressureisrelievedfromhydrauliccircuitsbeforeremovingcaps,covers,valves,
etc.
Allrepairandmaintenanceoperationsmustbecarriedoutusingextremecareandattention.
Servicestepsandplatformsusedinaworkshoporintheeldshouldbebuiltincompliancewiththesafetyrulesin
force.
Disconnectthebatteriesandlabelallcontrolstoindicatethatthevehicleisbeingserviced.Blockthemachineand
allequipmentwhichshouldberaised.
Donotcheckorllfueltanks,accumulatorbatteries,norusestartingliquidwhensmokingornearnakedames,
astheseuidsareinammable.
Brakesareinoperativeifmanuallyreleasedforrepairormaintenancepurposes.
Insuchcases,themachineshouldbekeptconstantlyundercontrolusingblocksorsimilardevices.
Thefuelnozzleshouldalwaysbeincontactwiththellingaperture.Maintainthispositionuntilllingoperations
arecompletedinordertoavoidpossiblesparkscausedbytheaccumulationofstaticelectricity.
Onlyusespeciedtowingpointsfortowingthetractor,connectpartscarefully.Makesurethatallpinsand/orlocks
aresecuredinpositionbeforeapplyingtraction.
Neverremainnearthetowingbars,cablesorchainsthatareoperatingunderload
Transportvehiclesthatcannotbedrivenusingatraileroralow--loadingplatformtrolley,ifavailable.
Whenloadingorunloadingthevehiclefromthetrailer(orothermeansoftransport),selectaatareacapable
ofsustainingthetrailerortruckwheels,rmlysecurethetractortothetruckortrailerandlockthewheelsinthe
position.
Electricheaters,battery--chargersandsimilarequipmentmustonlybepoweredbyauxiliarypowersupplieswith
efcientgroundinsulationtoavoidelectricalshockhazards.
Alwaysusesuitablehoistingorliftingdeviceswhenraisingormovingheavyparts.
Takeextracareifbystandersarepresent.
Neverpourgasolineordieseloilintoopen,wideandlowcontainers.
Neverusegasoline,dieseloilorotherinammableliquidsascleaningagents.Usenon-ammablenon-toxicpro-
prietarysolvents.
Wearsafetygoggleswithsideguardswhencleaningpartswithcompressedair.
Limittheairpressuretoamaximumof2.1bar(30.5psi),accordingtolocalregulations.
