Valentine
Bed
Valentine Bed – designed by Matthew Hilton
To prolong the life of the product and retain its appearance and functionality,
we would like to give you some relevant information and care advice:
This unit is manufactured from either oak, black stained oak, or stained walnut.
European craftsmen manufacture this product and there is variety between each unit.
This is because wood is a natural product, with natural colour and grain variations.
Natural timber is affected by sunlight; this can cause the wood colour to darken.
For this reason (especially if placed in direct sunlight) it is recommended that placing
objects in the same position for long periods of time is avoided. This potential colour
adjustment becomes less relevant as the product ages.
It is recommended that no abrasive cleaners or solvents are used to clean the unit.
Please only use proprietary furniture polishes or alternatively, warm water with
a diluted mild detergent.
We thank you for purchasing this product and wish you many years of enjoyable and
functional use.

Overview

Function Description

The Valentine Bed is a piece of furniture designed for sleeping. It is a bed frame that supports a mattress and provides a stable structure for a comfortable sleep experience. The design emphasizes natural materials and craftsmanship, aiming for both aesthetic appeal and long-term functionality.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Materials: The bed frame is manufactured from either oak, black stained oak, or stained walnut. These are natural timber products, which means each unit will exhibit unique natural color and grain variations.
  • Construction: The bed is assembled using a combination of threaded rods, pins, dowels, barrel cams, bolts, and screws. Specific fittings like spanners, Allen keys, and screwdrivers (crosshead and flathead) are required for assembly, though some are not supplied with the product.
  • Slats: The crossbars (slats) are designed to rest on top of brackets and are attached with screws. They are intended to bow upwards, likely to provide better support and flexibility for the mattress.
  • Components: The assembly requires various components, including:
    • A x 1 (Spanner)
    • B x 4 (Fittings)
    • C x 4 (Fittings)
    • D x 2 (Threaded rod)
    • E x 12 (Dowels)
    • F x 1 (Allen key)
    • G x 2 (Inner bolts)
    • H x 2 (Barrel cams)
    • I x 2 (Pins)
    • J x 2 (Threaded washers)
    • K x 2 (Outer bolts)
    • L x 4 (Brackets)
    • M x 12 (Screws for brackets)
    • N x 4 (Screws for crossbars)

Usage Features

  • Natural Variation: Due to the use of natural wood, each Valentine Bed unit will have unique color and grain patterns, making every piece distinct.
  • Sunlight Impact: Natural timber is susceptible to changes when exposed to sunlight, which can cause the wood color to darken over time. To mitigate uneven darkening, it is recommended to periodically move objects placed on the bed, especially if the bed is in direct sunlight, to avoid permanent lighter spots. This effect becomes less noticeable as the product ages.
  • Assembly Process: The bed requires self-assembly. The instructions detail a two-part process:
    1. Headboard and Side Rails: Involves inserting bolts and dowels into the headboard, offering it up to the side rails, and then pushing them together. Tightening is done using a spanner, fittings, an Allen key, and threaded washers.
    2. Foot End and Side Rails: Involves inserting threaded rods, pins, and dowels into the foot end, inserting barrel cams into the side rails, and then pushing the foot end and side rails together. Tightening is done using a spanner, fittings, threaded rods, barrel cams, and pins, with the aid of a flathead screwdriver (not supplied).
    3. Crossbars/Slats: Brackets are attached to the bed frame using a crosshead screwdriver (not supplied) and screws. The crossbars are then placed on these brackets and secured with screws. The slats are designed to bow upwards for optimal support.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: To maintain the unit's appearance and longevity, it is crucial to avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents. The recommended cleaning methods are:
    • Using proprietary furniture polishes.
    • Alternatively, using warm water with a diluted mild detergent.
  • Longevity: The care instructions are provided to help prolong the life of the product and ensure it retains its appearance and functionality for many years.
