The
direct
mode
is
specified
immediately
after
the
power
is
turned
on.
When
a
key
is
pressed
in
this
mode,
the
character
printed
on
the
key
is
input.
However,
if
the
3
key
is
pressed,
the
extension
mode
(the
“EXT”
symbol
lights
up)
is
specified,
making
it
possible
to
input
small
letters
or
special
symbols.
The
exten-
sion
mode
is
effective
for
the
upper
half
of
the
keyboard.
Shown
below
are
the
functions-of
the
individual
keys
in
each
mode:

key
has
plural
functions.
When
the

key
is
pressed
again
while
the
“EXT”
symbol

(extension
mode),
“EXT”
disappears
and
the
extension
mode
is
canceled:

Contrast
Control
When
the
display
is
dark
or
faint,
depending
on
the
battery
condition
or
display
view
angle,
adjust
it
by
moving
the
control
located
on
the
left
side
of
the
computer.

To
increase
the
display
contrast,
turn
the
control
in
the
direction
indicated
by
the
arrow.
To
weaken
the
contrast,
turn
it
in
the
opposite
direction.
Ef
the
con-
trast
is
still
weak
even
after
the
control
is
at
its
highest-contrast
position,
the
batteries
have
probably
run
down.
If
so,
replace
the
batteries
as
soon
as
possible.
