We now know that sound is vibration and that these can be seen by the eye as waveforms. But we have been
talking about "sound" in general up to now without taking into consideration that there are high sq unds
and low sounds, loud sounds and quiet sounds - mellow sounds and sharp sounds . : . that is to sa1/ a gre~t
~ ariety of sounds which we perceive very differe~tly . In general, sounds can be classified accor ding to "pitch",

When sounds with differing pitches are compared on an oscilloscope , the number of waves per time unit
differ . The higher a sound, the larger the number of waves; the lower a sound the smaller the number of
waves.
