ABOUT THE MAMBA MONSTER X
Motors
Please note that while the Mamba Monster X is capable of handling incredible
amounts of power, your motor must also be up for the task. Always run your
motor within the manufacturer’s specs. Monitor motor, battery, and controller
temps carefully and never let the motor get above 180
o
F. Excessive heat in the
motor can damage the motor, the Mamba Monster X, and your batteries.
Gearing
Always start with stock gearing. If you wish to change the gearing, motor, or
battery, you must check your motor temperature frequently on the first run. If the
motor gets too hot, reduce the pinion size, increase the spur size, or reduce the
pack voltage.
Programming
The Mamba Monster X is programmable via your transmitter, Windows® based PC
and a Castle Link USB adapter (available free with enclosed coupon), or a Field Link
card (purchased separately). See the Driver’s Ed Guide for more instructions on
transmitter programming and the Castle Link system. (Transmitter Programming”,
and “Tuning with Castle Link)
Data Logging
The Mamba Monster X features data logging. You will be able to measure and
record important power system information during your race, turn-by-turn.
After your run, you can download and analyze this log using Castle Link. You
will be able to inspect many parameters including battery voltage, motor RPM,
ESC temperature and more. Additional information about using the data logging
features can be found in the Driver’s Ed Guide (“Data Logging).

Overview

The Mamba Monster X is an extreme 1:8 scale waterproof power system designed for RC hobby vehicles weighing up to 15 lbs. This electronic speed controller (ESC) is capable of handling significant power, but it's crucial to ensure that the motor is also up to the task and within its manufacturer's specifications. Users should carefully monitor motor, battery, and controller temperatures, ensuring they do not exceed 180° F, as excessive heat can damage the motor, the Mamba Monster X, and batteries.

Technical Specifications:

  • Input Voltage Range: Minimum 2S LiPo, Maximum 6S LiPo (25.2V). Applying voltages higher than 25.2V will cause irreparable damage to the controller.
  • BEC Specifications: Adjustable to 5.5V, 6.0V, 7.5V, or 8.0V with an 8A peak, defaulting to 5.5V.
  • Waterproof: Yes, but not intended for operation while submerged in liquid. If operated in wet conditions, it should be rinsed with fresh water to remove dirt or corrosives, then fully dried.
  • Connectors: Features 6.5mm bullet connectors directly on the ESC for motor connections. The battery input wires are bare, requiring users to add their connector of choice. A high-current connector rated for 70+ amps is recommended.
  • Recommended Battery Capacity: For 1:8th scale vehicles, 5000mAh or larger LiPo batteries are recommended, with a continuous discharge rate of 30C or higher (or high-quality 25C batteries like Traxxas® Power Cell).

Usage Features:

  • Gearing: Always start with stock gearing. If gearing, motor, or battery changes are made, motor temperature must be frequently checked on the first run. If the motor gets too hot, reduce the pinion size, increase the spur size, or reduce the pack voltage.
  • Programming: The Mamba Monster X is highly programmable. Users can adjust settings via their transmitter, a Windows®-based PC with a Castle Link USB adapter (available free with an enclosed coupon), or a Field Link card (purchased separately). The Driver's Ed Guide provides detailed instructions on transmitter programming and the Castle Link system ("Transmitter Programming" and "Tuning with Castle Link").
  • Data Logging: A key feature of the Mamba Monster X is its data logging capability. This allows users to measure and record important power system information during a run, turn-by-turn. After the run, the log can be downloaded and analyzed using Castle Link. Parameters such as battery voltage, motor RPM, and ESC temperature can be inspected. More information on data logging is available in the Driver's Ed Guide ("Data Logging").
  • Sensors: The unit is sensor-enabled with the purchase of an optional sensor harness (Castle P/N 011-0108-00).
  • Receiver Connection (RX Wire): The RX wire plugs into the throttle (#2) channel on the receiver.
  • Auxiliary Wire (AUX Wire): This wire allows for "on-the-fly" adjustment of a setting using an auxiliary channel on the receiver. The AUX wire function is disabled by default and is programmable via Castle Link. It plugs into the auxiliary (#3/#4) channel on the receiver.
  • Transmitter Programming Reference:
    • Brake/Reverse Type: Options include "With Reverse" (default), "Without Reverse," and "Crawler Reverse."
    • Voltage Cutoff: Options are "Auto-Lipo" (default) and "None."
    • Brake Amount: Adjustable from 25% to 100%, with 50% as the default.
    • Drag Brake: Options include "Disabled" (default), 10%, 20%, 30%, and "Crawler Full On."
    • Motor Type: Options are "Brushless" (default) and "Brushed Reversing."
    • Motor Direction: Options are "Normal" (default) and "Reverse."
  • Audible Alert Reference: The ESC provides various audible alerts for conditions such as Start Fail, Low Voltage Cutoff, Over-Current, Sensors Lost, Radio Glitch, Over-Temperature, Excessive Load, AUX Wire Radio Glitch, BEC Over-Temperature, Data Log Full Warning, and Motor Over-Temperature.

Maintenance Features:

  • Post-Wet Operation: If the unit is operated in wet conditions, it should be rinsed with fresh water to remove dirt or corrosives, then fully dried.
  • Warranty: Failure to adhere to the Product Use Statement (which includes warnings against high voltage and ensuring the motor is not used for human or animal propulsion) constitutes a violation of the warranty agreement and will result in non-warranty service fees for repair or replacement of damaged products.

The Mamba Monster X is designed for serious RC enthusiasts looking for a robust and highly configurable power system for their 1:8 scale vehicles, offering advanced features like data logging and extensive programming options to optimize performance and monitor system health.
