Cautions on recharging
Avoid charging in direct sunlight or in a
vehicle parked under direct sunlight, and
make sure to charge only when the ambient
temperature is between 41°F and 104 °F
(5 and 40°C).
Before charging, be sure that no dust or
other foreign objects attach to the USB
plug.
Do not subject the light to vibrations while
charging.
Once charging is complete, be sure to
disconnect the USB plug.
Cautions in use
Charging, discharging, and storing in high
temperatures will cause the rechargeable
battery to deteriorate faster. Do not place
the light inside a vehicle or near a heater.
When the operating time decreases signifi-
cantly, the battery life is close to an end.
Replace the cartridge battery with a new one.
Cautions on storage
Cool and dry storage is recommended.
For long period storage, it is important
to charge the battery 30 minutes every 6
months.
When you store the cartridge battery alone,
be sure to install the cap. Otherwise, dam
-
age or a fire may be caused by short circuit.
Cautions for dispose
Dispose of used cartridge batteries appropri-
ately according to local regulations.

Do you have a question about the Cateye Volt400 Duplex and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CatEye VOLT400 DUPLEX™ HL-EL462RC-H is a versatile, high-intensity LED light unit designed for helmet mounting, offering both front and rear lighting capabilities. This device is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion cartridge battery and features a robust, water-resistant design suitable for various cycling conditions.

Function Description:

The VOLT400 DUPLEX™ serves as a dual-purpose light, integrating a front light and a taillight into a single compact unit. It is primarily designed for helmet mounting, providing illumination and visibility for cyclists. The front light offers multiple lighting modes, including High, Middle, Low, HyperConstant, and Flashing, catering to different visibility and battery life requirements. The taillight provides Constant and Flashing modes for rear visibility. A unique feature allows for simultaneous operation of both front and rear lights, with specific modes like High/Constant and Flashing/Constant. The device incorporates a mode memory function, which means it will turn on in the last lighting mode used.

The unit is rechargeable via a Micro USB plug, allowing connection to a PC or a commercial USB battery charger. An indicator light signals the charging status, turning red during charging and off when charging is complete. For enhanced charging convenience, an optional Fast charging cradle 2 is available, which not only charges the battery but can also function as a mobile battery.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Light Source: High-intensity LED x 1
  • Cartridge Battery: BA-2.6-R (Li-ion 3.6V 2600mAH) is the standard battery. Optional cartridge batteries include Li-ion 3.6V 3400mAH (BA-3.4) and Li-ion 3.6V 2200mAH (BA-2.2).
  • Charge: Micro USB plug
  • Standard Charging Time: Approximately 6 hours (using USB 2.0)
  • Operating Temperature Range: Charging: 41°F - 104°F (5°C - 40°C); Operating: 14°F - 104°F (-10°C - 40°C)
  • Average Runtime at 20°C (Front Light Only):
    • High: Approx. 3 hours
    • Middle: Approx. 10 hours
    • Low: Approx. 18 hours
    • HyperConstant: Approx. 9 hours
    • Flashing: Approx. 150 hours
  • Average Runtime at 20°C (Rear Light Only):
    • Constant: Approx. 25 hours
    • Flashing: Approx. 250 hours
  • Average Runtime at 20°C (Front/Rear Simultaneous):
    • High / Constant: Approx. 3 hours
    • Flashing / Constant: Approx. 30 hours
  • Recharge/Discharge Cycles: Approximately 300 times (until rated capacity drops to 70%)
  • Dimensions/Weight: 4-63/64" x 1-43/64" x 1-15/64" (127 x 42.5 x 31 mm) / 3.83 oz (108.5 g) (including cartridge battery)
  • Water Resistance: Designed for normal daily use and rain, but not for intentional submersion.

Usage Features:

  • Helmet Mounting: The device comes with a helmet mount that securely fastens to the front part of a helmet by wrapping a bracket strap through the air vents. The bracket strap can be attached either vertically or horizontally. The light unit then mounts onto this bracket.
  • Switch Operation: A single switch on the light unit (and an additional switch on the cartridge battery for rear light control) allows for turning the light on/off and cycling through the various lighting modes. Pressing and holding the switch typically changes between main modes (e.g., High, Middle, Low), while a double-click might activate specific modes like HyperConstant. A single click often cycles through modes within a group or activates flashing.
  • Battery Indicator: The switch itself acts as an indicator for remaining battery capacity. When it lights up, it signals low battery power, prompting the user to recharge soon.
  • Beam Adjustment: Once mounted, the angle of the beam can be adjusted to ensure optimal visibility and to prevent dazzling oncoming drivers.
  • Cartridge Battery System: The VOLT400 DUPLEX™ utilizes a replaceable cartridge battery system. The battery can be easily removed by turning it counterclockwise and installed by screwing it into the light unit until it clicks. This allows for quick battery swaps, extending usage time.
  • Optional Cradle: The optional Fast charging cradle 2 provides an alternative charging method and can also serve as a portable power bank, offering flexibility for charging other USB-powered devices.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: For dirt or mud, the light unit and its parts should be cleaned with a soft cloth moistened with mild soap. Harsh chemicals like paint thinner, benzine, or alcohol should be avoided to prevent damage.
  • Battery Care (Recharging):
    • Charge only when ambient temperatures are between 41°F and 104°F (5°C and 40°C).
    • Avoid charging in direct sunlight or inside a parked vehicle under direct sunlight.
    • Ensure no dust or foreign objects are attached to the USB plug before charging.
    • Avoid subjecting the light to vibrations during charging.
    • Disconnect the USB plug once charging is complete.
  • Battery Care (Usage):
    • High temperatures during charging, discharging, or storage can accelerate battery deterioration. Avoid placing the light inside a vehicle or near a heater.
    • Replace the cartridge battery when operating time significantly decreases, indicating the end of its life.
  • Battery Care (Storage):
    • Store in a cool and dry place.
    • For long-term storage, charge the battery for 30 minutes every 6 months.
    • When storing the cartridge battery alone, ensure the cap is installed to prevent damage or fire from short circuits.
  • Disposal: Used cartridge batteries should be disposed of appropriately according to local regulations.
  • Bracket Maintenance: Periodically check the screw on the bracket to ensure it is not loose, maintaining secure mounting.
  • Warranty: The light unit comes with a 2-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Deterioration of the cartridge battery is not covered under this warranty, as battery life is subject to usage and environmental factors.
