Opener Safety Feature Verification

This document describes a Chamberlain Wi-Fi® Garage Door Opener, designed for residential use. It supports both chain drive models (C2405, D2405, C2102, C2202, D2101) and belt drive models (B2202, B2405, B4505T). The opener integrates with the myQ® app for smart control and monitoring.

Function Description

The Chamberlain Wi-Fi® Garage Door Opener allows users to open and close their garage door, receive alerts, and set schedules from anywhere using the myQ® app. This connectivity also ensures the opener receives software updates for the latest operational features. The opener is compatible with myQ® and Security+ 2.0® accessories. It is crucial to note that the door WILL NOT CLOSE unless the Protector System® (safety reversing sensors) is connected and properly aligned. The opener is designed for use with sectional doors, especially when utilizing features that provide unattended close. It should NOT be installed on a one-piece door if such features are used.

The opener features electronic controls for easy setup and adjustments, allowing users to program the door's open (UP) and close (DOWN) positions. The electronic controls automatically sense the force required to operate the door, adjusting it during travel programming. If anything interferes with the door's upward travel, it will stop. If anything interferes with its downward travel, it will reverse.

Usage Features

Installation and Setup:

The opener should be installed on a properly balanced and lubricated garage door. All repairs to cables, spring assemblies, and other hardware must be performed by a trained door systems technician before installation.
All locks and ropes connected to the garage door must be disabled and removed to avoid entanglement.
The door opener should be installed 7 feet (2.13 m) or more above the floor, where possible.
The emergency release handle must be mounted within reach, at least 6 feet (1.83 m) above the floor, and away from vehicle contact to prevent accidental release.
The opener should NOT be connected to a power source until instructed.
Wall-mounted garage door controls should be installed within sight of the garage door, out of reach of small children (minimum 5 feet/1.5 m above floors), and away from all moving parts.
Entrapment warning labels and manual release/safety reverse test labels must be placed in plain view.
For permanent wiring, the motor unit cover can be removed to connect black (line), white (neutral), and ground wires. The opener must be grounded.

Smartphone Connectivity (myQ® App):

To connect with a smartphone, users need a Wi-Fi® enabled device, broadband internet, and a Wi-Fi® signal in the garage (2.4 GHz, 802.11b/g/n required). The home network password is also needed.
Users can test Wi-Fi® signal strength in the garage. If the signal is weak or absent, moving the router closer or using a Wi-Fi® range extender is recommended.
The myQ® app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
The garage door opener must complete a full cycle before Wi-Fi® programming activates.
An LED on the garage door opener indicates Wi-Fi status: Off (Wi-Fi off), Blinking Blue (Wi-Fi learn mode), Solid Blue (mobile device connected), Blinking Blue and Green (attempting to connect to router), Blinking Green (attempting to connect to Internet server), Solid Green (Wi-Fi set up and connected to Internet).

Programming:

Remote Control: To program a remote, press and release the LEARN Button on the garage door opener, then press and hold the desired button on the remote until the opener lights blink or two clicks are heard. For multi-function control panels, press the LEARN button on the door control to enter programming mode, then press it again, and finally press the remote button. For push button door controls, press and hold the Light and Push buttons until the Push button LED blinks, then press the remote button.
Wireless Keyless Entry: Instructions are provided with the keyless entry or can be downloaded from Chamberlain.com.
Erasing Memory:
- To erase ALL remote controls and keyless entries, press and hold the LEARN button until the LED goes out (approx. 6 seconds).
- To erase ALL devices (including myQ® enabled accessories), press and hold the LEARN button until the LED goes out, then immediately press and hold it again until the LED goes out.
- To erase the Wi-Fi Network, press and hold the adjustment button until 3 beeps are heard.

Operation:

Manual Operation: To open the door manually, disengage any door locks, ensure the door is fully closed, and pull down on the emergency release handle. For a lockout feature, pull the handle down and back, allowing manual raising and lowering. To disengage the lockout, pull the handle straight down. The trolley will reconnect upon the next opener activation.
Door Control: The opener uses A19 incandescent (100W max) or compact fluorescent 26W (100W equivalent) light bulbs. Halogen, short neck, specialty, or LED bulbs should NOT be used.
The Protector System® (Safety Reversing Sensors): The door will not close if sensors are not installed and aligned. If the light beam is obstructed or misaligned during closing, the door will reverse. If already open, it will not close. Sensors can be aligned by loosening wing nuts, aligning, and tightening. Both sensor LEDs should glow steadily when aligned and wired correctly. The sending sensor has an amber LED, and the receiving sensor has a green LED. Both should be no higher than 6" (15 cm) above the garage floor.

Adjustment:

Program the Travel: This involves setting the UP and DOWN positions. Press and hold the Adjustment Button until the UP Button flashes or a beep is heard. Then, press and hold the UP Button until the door is in the desired UP position. Press and release the Adjustment Button. The opener lights will flash twice, and the DOWN Button will flash. Press and hold the DOWN button until the door is in the desired DOWN position. Press and release the Adjustment Button. If the opener lights flash 5 times, programming has timed out.
Automatic Force Set Up: After manual travel programming, the safety reversing sensors reconnect. The opener will automatically open and close the door, sounding an audible and visual alert. Three beeps confirm successful completion. If a long beep occurs, restart travel programming.

Safety Reversal System Test:

Monthly testing is required. With the door fully open, place a 1-1/2 inch (3.8 cm) board (or 2x4 laid flat) on the floor, centered under the garage door. Press the remote control to close the door. The door MUST reverse upon contact with the board. If it stops but doesn't reverse, repeat travel programming and the test.

Protector System® Test:

Open the door and place an obstruction in the path of the door. Press the remote control to close the door. The door should not move more than an inch (2.5 cm). If the opener closes the door when the sensor is obstructed (and sensors are within 6 inches/15 cm of the floor), a trained door systems technician should be called.

Maintenance Features

Every Month:

Manually operate the door to check for balance or binding. If found, call a trained door systems technician.
Verify the door opens and closes fully, adjusting if necessary.
Test the safety reversal system, adjusting if necessary.

Every Year:

Oil door rollers, bearings, and hinges. The garage door opener itself does not require additional lubrication, and door tracks should not be greased.
If applicable, test the battery backup to ensure operation during power outages. Unplug the opener from AC power. The battery status LED will show solid orange (operating on battery) or flash (low battery). Open and close the door using the remote or door control. In battery backup mode, the Automatic Garage Door Lock will unlock when the door is opened and remain disabled until power is restored. Plug the opener back in and verify the battery status LED is flashing green (charging).

Every Two to Three Years:

Wipe away existing grease from the garage door opener rail with a rag. Reapply a small layer of white lithium grease to the top and underside of the rail surface where the trolley slides.

Remote Control Battery:

Remote controls use 3V CR2032 coin batteries. To replace, pry open the case first in the middle, then at each side, using a visor clip.
WARNING: Keep batteries away from small children. If swallowed, immediately notify a doctor. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 212°F (100°C), or incinerate.

Troubleshooting Tips:

Opener will not close: Check if both sensor LEDs are glowing steadily (indicating proper alignment and wiring).
Vehicle Homelink® not programming: An external adapter may be required depending on the vehicle.
Opener beeps: May indicate an obstruction, or activation via Timer-to-Close, garage door monitor, or Internet Gateway.
Neighbor's remote opens your door: Erase the opener's memory and reprogram your remote(s).
Door moves 6-8", stops or reverses: Manually open and close the door to check for binding or obstructions. May also indicate travel module failure.
Remote control will not activate door: Verify the lock feature is not active on the door control or reprogram the remote.
Wall-mounted door control will not function: Wires may be shorted or the door control is faulty.
Opener hums for 1-2 seconds with no movement, 5 flashes, 5 beeps: Manually open and close the door to check for binding or obstructions.
Cannot connect to home Wi-Fi: Ensure the myQ® Serial number was entered correctly (A-F and 0-9 only).
