is ideal for a wide range of force test-
ing applications. Based on our popu-
lar DPP Series force gauge, the LG
Series features a larger, 2.25-inch dial
for improved resolution and readabil-
ity, peak hold button, ergonomic shape
and improved accuracy of +0.5% of
full scale. The LG gauge is an excel-
lent, economical solution for tensile or
compression testing.
The durable, plastic housing fits natu-
rally in the hand for a comfortable and
firm grip even at maximum loads.
Gauges may be mounted to a test
stand for even greater control and con-
sistent results in repetitive testing ap-
plications. Easy to read concentric
dial measures clockwise direction
only. Dial rotates 360-degrees for tar-
ing. A peak hold button captures peak
readings. Available in lbf, kgf or N
units of measure. LG Series gauges
come complete with protective carry-
ing case and a set of stainless steel
attachments. A Certificate of Calibra-
tion with Data is supplied standard.

Overview

The Chatillon LG Series Mechanical Force Gauge is a versatile and economical instrument designed for a wide range of force testing applications, including both tensile and compression testing. It builds upon the popular DPP Series force gauge, offering enhanced features for improved usability and accuracy.

Function Description:

The LG Series force gauge measures force using a mechanical dial indicator. It is a unidirectional gauge, meaning the dial indicator must always rotate in the clockwise direction when a load is applied. This ensures accurate readings and prevents damage to the instrument. The gauge is equipped with a peak hold feature, which allows the user to capture and retain the maximum force reading after the load has been removed. The dial itself is concentric and measures in a clockwise direction only, with a 360-degree rotation capability for taring.

For compression testing, appropriate attachments or grips are assembled to the bottom shaft of the force gauge. The shaft is pushed into the gauge, causing the indicator to rotate clockwise. For tension testing, a hook, attachment, or grip is assembled to the top shaft, and the shaft is pulled out of the top of the gauge, again causing clockwise rotation of the indicator. Attachments should be applied "finger-tight" to prevent overtightening.

The gauge is designed for axial loading, and it is crucial to avoid applying loads at an angle, as this can introduce errors in the force readings. It also incorporates a 10% tare capacity for fixtures and grips, ensuring that the gauge can still measure up to its full scale even with the weight of accessories.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Accuracy: ±0.5% of Full Scale
  • Overload Capacity: 110% of Rated Capacity
  • Maximum Overload: 150% of Rated Capacity
  • Tare Capacity: 10% of Rated Capacity
  • Dial Resolution: 0.5% of Full Scale
  • Deflection: 10mm (.394 inches) at Full Scale
  • Operating Temperature: +40°F to +110°F (+5°C to +45°C)
  • Instrument Weight: 1.5 lbs (0.67 kg)
  • Shipping Weight with case: 3.5 lbs (1.59 kg)
  • Warranty: 2 Years

The LG Series is available in various capacities and resolutions across three unit types:

  • Decimal Dials (LBF): Ranging from LG-002 (2 x 0.01 lbf) to LG-100 (100 x 0.5 lbf).
  • Metric Dials (KGF): Ranging from LG-1KG (1 x 0.005 kgf) to LG-50KG (50 x 0.25 kgf).
  • S.I. Dials (Newtons): Ranging from LG-10N (10 x 0.05 N) to LG-500N (500 x 2.5 N).

Usage Features:

  • Larger Dial: Features a 2.25-inch dial for improved resolution and readability compared to previous models.
  • Ergonomic Shape: The durable plastic housing is designed to fit naturally in the hand, providing a comfortable and firm grip even at maximum loads.
  • Peak Hold Button: A dedicated knob allows activation of the peak hold feature ("MAX ON" position) to capture and display the maximum force applied. To reset the reading, the switch is rotated to "MAX OFF" and then back to "MAX ON." To deactivate, rotate to "MAX OFF."
  • Taring: The dial can be rotated 360 degrees to zero the gauge, compensating for gravity effects or the weight of fixtures/grips. For lighter models (5 LBF, 2KGF, 20N or less), a gentle tap may be needed to overcome static friction when zeroing.
  • Mounting Options: The gauge can be mounted to a test stand using two #10-32 female threads, ensuring screws do not exceed 3/8 inch in length to prevent damage. Additionally, it has four M3 x 0.5 threaded holes for alternative mounting.
  • Accessories: LG Series gauges come standard with a protective carrying case and a set of stainless steel attachments. A Certificate of Calibration with Data is also supplied. Optional accessories like various hooks and extension rods are available.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Accuracy Checks: Gauge accuracy should be checked periodically to ensure it remains within calibration limits.
  • Calibration Verification: Calibration can be verified by applying known weights (adjusted for local gravity) to the extension hook.
  • Factory Calibration: If adjustment is required, the gauge should be returned to AMETEK for professional calibration.
  • Spare Parts: A comprehensive list of spare parts is provided, including dial indicator assemblies for all models, bezel, bearing support assembly, top and bottom cases, peak hold knob assembly, mounting plate, gauge model label, ball bushing, and retaining ring.

The LG Series is a robust and reliable instrument, backed by a two-year product warranty against defects in workmanship, material, and design, provided it has not been subjected to tampering, abuse, or highly corrosive conditions.
