Do you have a question about the CIS CRS326-24G and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CIS-CRS326-24G is a network switch designed by Custom Integration Solutions (CIS) to simplify network deployment for both home and business environments. It boasts an ARM CPU and 512 MB of RAM, providing ample switching capacity for various applications.

Function Description:

The CIS-CRS326-24G primarily functions as a network switch, facilitating data transfer between connected devices. It is designed to be easy to set up with minimal configuration, making it suitable for integrators. The device supports VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) for network isolation, which helps secure designated devices, restrict traffic, and reduce overall network congestion. This is particularly recommended for VoIP applications and systems handling sensitive data. The switch also includes features for multicast filtering, which conserves network resources by efficiently distributing single streams of data to multiple devices, preventing network flooding. Diagnostic tools like IP Scan and Ping are integrated to help users locate devices, check connectivity, and troubleshoot network issues. UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) is available for easy device discovery, though it's recommended to keep it disabled unless necessary due to security implications.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • CPU: ARM
  • RAM: 512 MB
  • Ethernet Ports: 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports (with Auto MDI/X). Port 1 supports PoE input.
  • SFP+ Cages: 2 SFP+ cages, compatible with both 1.25 Gb SFP and 10 Gb SFP+ modules.
  • Serial Port: RJ45 serial port (disabled by default).
  • Power Input: 24V DC adapter (included) or PoE input on port 1 (10-30V DC).
  • Maximum Power Consumption: 24W.
  • Firmware: RouterOS v6.47.7 (stable) or newer versions like v6.48.

Usage Features:

  • Quick Setup: The manual outlines a straightforward three-step process:
    1. Connect the 24V DC adapter or power via PoE on port 1.
    2. Connect the switch to the router using an Ethernet or SFP cable (avoid connecting both simultaneously).
    3. Connect network devices to the remaining ports.
  • Web Interface Access: The device's web interface is accessed by obtaining its IP address from the router's DHCP leases and navigating to it in a web browser. The default login credentials are "cis" for username and "integration" for password.
  • Identity Setting: Users can set a unique identity for the switch to easily distinguish it on the network, especially when multiple switches of the same model are in use. This is found under the "System" tab.
  • Undo/Redo: Configuration changes can be quickly undone or redone using dedicated buttons in the left toolbar.
  • Show/Hide Passwords: A feature to toggle the display of passwords related to Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and other settings.
  • IP Addressing: The switch acquires an IP address via DHCP by default. Users can view assigned IP addresses, renew DHCP leases, and set static IP addresses if needed. For static IP addresses outside predefined ranges, CIS support must be contacted to create a route.
  • Interfaces Overview: The "Interfaces" section, specifically the "Ethernet" tab, provides a real-time overview of activity on all ports, including traffic sent and received, and other diagnostic information.
  • VLAN Configuration:
    • Preconfigured Systems: For systems with purchased VLAN configurations, users can change the VLAN on a port by selecting "Bridge" then "Ports" and entering the desired VLAN ID in the PVID field.
    • Manual Configuration: Users can manually configure VLANs by enabling VLAN Filtering on the bridge, assigning trunk ports (which carry traffic from all VLANs between switches and routers), and assigning specific ports to VLANs by setting their PVID.
  • Multicast Filtering:
    • Prior to 6.48: Users would enable MAC Filter for ports receiving multicast traffic via the "Interface List" tab.
    • 6.48 and Newer: IGMP Snooping can be enabled on the bridge to automatically forward multicast traffic only to requesting devices.
  • Multicast Querier: This option, required for many multicast systems, enables the switch to periodically check if devices still require a multicast stream.
  • Tools:
    • UPnP: Allows easy discovery of devices on the network.
    • Ping: Used to determine if a remote device is active and measure round-trip time.
    • IP Scan: Locates devices on the network, including those with static IP addresses on the same network as the switch.

Maintenance Features:

  • Changing Default Password: Users are strongly advised to change the default password immediately after the first login to enhance device security.
  • Rebooting the Device: A reboot option is available under the "System" tab for troubleshooting ongoing network issues.
  • Reset Button: A physical reset button allows users to revert the device to its default CIS configuration. This is useful if the password is forgotten or if a full reset is desired. To perform a reset, hold the button while the device is powered off, apply power, and continue holding until the USR LED flashes (approximately 5 seconds), then release.
  • Power Cycling an Ethernet Port: Individual Ethernet ports can be power cycled via the web interface, which can be useful for resetting connected devices without physically unplugging them.
  • Time Zone Setting: The time zone can be configured under the "System" tab.
  • Firmware Upgrades: If certain features are unavailable due to an older firmware version (e.g., prior to 6.48 for IGMP Snooping), users are advised to contact CIS for a firmware upgrade.
  • CIS Support Tunnel: Activating the CIS Support tunnel allows the CIS team to make configuration changes, push updates, and troubleshoot the network remotely.

Warranty and Support:

Custom Integration Solutions™ products come with a 2-Year Limited Warranty covering parts and labor for defects in material or workmanship under normal use. The warranty does not cover abuse, modification, or disassembly. For repairs, prior notification and a Return Authorization (RA) number are required. Technical support and contact information are provided, including a phone number and email for activations. The device is in compliance with Directive 2014/53/EC.
