In the event of a breakdown
Whenyourvehicle'sbatteryisdischarged,the
enginecanbestartedusingaslavebattery
(externaloronanothervehicle)andjumplead
cablesorabatterybooster.
Starting using another battery
F Raisetheplasticcoveronthe(+)terminal,
ifyourvehiclehasone.
F Connecttheredcabletothepositive
terminal(+)oftheflatbatteryA (at
themetalelbow)thentothepositive
terminal(+)oftheslavebatteryB or
thebooster.
F Connectoneendofthegreenorblack
cabletothenegativeterminal(-)ofthe
slave battery B or the booster (or earth
pointontheothervehicle).
F Connecttheotherendofthegreenorblack
cable to the earth point Conthebroken
downvehicle.
F Starttheengineofthevehiclewiththe
goodbatteryandleaveitrunningforafew
minutes.
F Operatethestarteronthebrokendown
vehicleandlettheenginerun.
Iftheenginedoesnotstartstraightaway,
switchofftheignitionandwaitafewmoments
beforetryingagain.
Nevertrytostarttheengineby
connectingabatterycharger.
Neverusea24Vorhigherbattery
booster.
Firstcheckthattheslavebatteryhasa
nominalvoltageof12Vandacapacity
atleastequaltothatofthedischarged
battery.
Thetwovehiclesmustnotbeincontact
witheachother.
Switchofftheelectricalconsumerson
bothvehicles(audiosystem,wipers,
lighting,...).
Ensurethatthejumpleadcablesdo
notpassclosetomovingpartsofthe
engine(coolingfan,belts,...).
Donotdisconnectthe(+)terminalwhen
theengineisrunning.
F Waituntiltheenginereturnstoidlethen
disconnectthejumpleadcablesinthe
reverseorder.
F Refittheplasticcovertothe(+)terminal,if
yourvehiclehasone.
F Allowtheenginetorunforatleast
30minutes,bydrivingorwiththevehicle
stationary, so that the battery reaches an
adequatestateofcharge.
Somefunctions,includingStop&Start,
are not available if the battery is not
sufficientlycharged.
