Res-Up®
Feeders
The most efcient water softener media are resin
beads honeycombed with microscopic pores. As raw
water passes through the medium impurities are
deposited around the resin beads and in the pores.
The brine bath removes the impurities but, alone,
can't penetrate the pores or remove iron and slime
deposits.
RES-UP CLEANER is formulated to penetrate bead
pores and loosen up and oat away iron and other
impurities. Res-Up Cleaner will also keep softener
components and control valve parts free of build-ups
which impair proper functions.
RES-UP FEEDER is a programmed feeder which
meters the proper amount of Res-Up Cleaner each
time the resin bed is regenerated. The Res-Up Feeder
can be programmed for the size of the resin bed and
the amount of iron and impurities in the raw water.

Overview

The Res-Up® Feeder is a programmed device designed to automatically dispense Res-Up Cleaner into water softener systems, enhancing their efficiency and longevity. It is specifically engineered to work in conjunction with Res-Up Cleaner, a specialized formulation for maintaining water conditioning resin and brine systems.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Res-Up Feeder is to ensure the continuous and precise delivery of Res-Up Cleaner into the brine well of a water softener. This process is crucial for maintaining the efficiency of the resin beads, which are the core component of a water softener. Resin beads are honeycombed with microscopic pores that trap impurities from raw water. While the brine bath in a softener removes many impurities, it often fails to penetrate these microscopic pores or effectively remove stubborn deposits like iron and slime.

Res-Up Cleaner is formulated to address these issues by penetrating the bead pores, loosening, and floating away iron and other impurities. By regularly introducing this cleaner, the Res-Up Feeder helps prevent the accumulation of these deposits, which can otherwise impair the softener's performance. Furthermore, the cleaner helps keep softener components and control valve parts free of build-ups, ensuring their proper function and extending the life of the system.

The feeder is "programmed" in the sense that its delivery rate can be adjusted based on the size of the resin bed and the level of iron and impurities present in the raw water. This programmability allows for tailored maintenance, ensuring optimal cleaning without overuse of the cleaner. The feeder operates automatically, dispensing the correct amount of Res-Up Cleaner each time the resin bed regenerates.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Delivery Mechanism: The feeder utilizes a wick and filter stone tube (for most models) to draw and dispense the cleaner. The S6306 Clear 1.0 oz model, however, does not include a filter stone and relies on a knotted wick end to be positioned at the bottom of the container.
  • Tubing Color Coding: The feeder's tubing is color-coded to indicate the average daily delivery of Res-Up Cleaner:
    • Yellow Tubing: Delivers approximately 0.40 oz (12.0 cc) per day.
    • Clear Tubing: Delivers approximately 1.00 oz (30.0 cc) per day.
  • Container Capacity: The feeder comes in various sizes, including models designed for 3-pint, 1-quart, and 1-gallon containers of Res-Up Cleaner.
  • Material: The feeder's container is made of plastic.
  • Compatibility: The Res-Up Feeder is designed exclusively for use with Res-Up Cleaner. It is not to be used with Gel Zeolite.
  • Patented Design: The device is protected under U.S. Pat. No. 3,334,789.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The feeder is designed for straightforward installation within the brine tank of a water softener. It attaches to a bracket and positions next to the brine well. Installation involves drilling a 1/16" hole in the brine well cap for the feeder and two 3/8" holes in the brine tank (under the rim) for the bracket and grommets.
  • Initial Setup: Before first use, the feeder needs to be filled with water to immerse the filter stone tube and wick, allowing them to soak for 15 minutes or more. After soaking, the container is emptied, and the tubing is adjusted so the stone is upright and resting at the bottom of the stone well. The free end of the tube is then inserted into the brine well cap, ensuring it is below the bottom level of the feeder.
  • Refilling: The plastic container is filled with Res-Up Cleaner up to the "Fill Line" indicated on the label. Automatic feeding commences within a few hours after refilling and replacing the cover.
  • Dosage Guide: A comprehensive application guide is provided, detailing recommended regeneration cycles (based on a 12-day clock) and delivery feeds (Light, Medium, Heavy) for different approximate resin bed sizes (1/2 cu. ft., 3/4 cu. ft., 1 cu. ft.). This guide helps users select the appropriate feeder size and tubing color code for their specific softener system and water conditions.
  • Immediate Cleaning Action: In cases where the resin bed is initially heavily contaminated, users can directly add quantities of Res-Up Cleaner into the brine well to initiate immediate cleaning action, supplementing the feeder's continuous maintenance.
  • Recommended Dosages for Cleaner:
    • Initial Cleanup (Heavily Fouled Beds): 3-4 oz of Res-Up Cleaner per cubic foot of resin.
    • Preventive Maintenance: 1/2-1 oz of Res-Up Cleaner per cubic foot of resin per regeneration.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Refills: The primary maintenance involves regularly refilling the feeder with Res-Up Cleaner as indicated by the "Refill Line" on the label.
  • Wick/Filter Stone Care: For models with a filter stone, ensuring the stone tube and wick are properly immersed and the stone is upright at the bottom of the well is crucial for consistent delivery. For the S6306 Clear 1.0 oz model, confirming the knotted wick end is at the bottom of the container is important.
  • Troubleshooting: If automatic feeding does not occur, users should check the fill level and ensure the wick/filter stone assembly is correctly positioned.

Safety Information:

  • CAUTION: Res-Up Cleaner contains mineral acid and should be kept out of reach of children. It is harmful if swallowed and causes skin and eye irritation. Users should avoid contact with skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. First aid instructions are provided on the Res-Up Cleaner container.

The Res-Up Feeder, combined with Res-Up Cleaner, offers a systematic and effective solution for maintaining the peak performance of water softener systems, preventing common issues related to resin fouling and component build-up, and ultimately extending the lifespan of the water conditioning equipment.
