Overview

The ClearOne Conduit Box is an accessory designed to facilitate cable management and attachment for ClearOne BMA CT, CTH, and BMA 360 units, particularly when installing these devices within a ceiling grid. The primary function of the conduit box is to provide a secure and organized enclosure for routing cables, protecting them, and ensuring a clean installation.

Function Description:

The conduit box serves as an interface between the BMA unit and external cabling, such as speaker cables, CP2 or P-Link device connections, and PoE injector cables. It provides designated knockouts for various cable sizes, allowing for flexible and organized cable entry and exit. By enclosing the cable connections, the conduit box helps maintain the aesthetic integrity of the ceiling installation and protects the connections from dust, damage, and unauthorized access.

The method of attachment for the conduit box varies depending on the specific BMA unit. For the BMA CT or CTH models, adhesive strips are used, while for the BMA 360, screws are employed. This distinction ensures optimal and secure attachment tailored to the design of each BMA unit. ClearOne strongly recommends attaching the conduit box before installing the main BMA unit into the ceiling grid, simplifying the installation process and ensuring proper alignment and secure connections.

Important Technical Specifications:

Two distinct conduit box models are available, each tailored to specific BMA units:

For BMA CT or CTH:

  • Part Number: 910-3200-205-CB
  • Included Parts:
    • Conduit box (1) with 6 concentric 1/2" and 3/4" knockouts. These knockouts allow for flexibility in cable diameter, accommodating common cable sizes.
    • Conduit box lid (1).
    • M4x8mm screws (4) for securing the lid.
  • Attachment Method: Adhesive strips on the edges of the conduit box. These strips are specifically rated for high temperatures, ensuring long-term durability and adhesion in various environmental conditions within a ceiling space.

For BMA 360:

  • Part Number: 910-3200-208-CB
  • Included Parts:
    • Conduit box (1) with 12 concentric 1/2" and 3/4" knockouts. This model offers a greater number of knockouts, providing more options for cable routing, which may be necessary for the BMA 360's connectivity requirements.
    • Conduit box lid (1).
    • M4x8mm screws (4) for securing the lid.
    • M3x8mm screws (6) for attaching the conduit box to the BMA 360 unit.
  • Attachment Method: Six M3x8mm screws directly attach the conduit box to the back of the BMA 360 unit, providing a robust and secure mechanical connection.

Both models feature a removable lid, which is essential for installation and maintenance access. The use of concentric knockouts on both models provides versatility, allowing installers to choose the appropriate diameter (1/2" or 3/4") for each cable, minimizing unused openings and maintaining a neat appearance.

Usage Features:

The conduit box is designed for ease of installation and practical use in professional audio-visual environments.

For BMA CT or CTH:

  1. Preparation: The installation begins by removing the adhesive tape liner from the bottom three surfaces of the conduit box. This exposes the high-temperature rated adhesive strips.
  2. Positioning: To ensure proper alignment and prevent premature engagement of the adhesive, the conduit box should be tilted. It is then slid into position, aligning its open end with the BMA CT/CTH connectors and the self-clinching nuts on the BMA unit. The self-clinching nuts serve as guides for precise placement.
  3. Securing: Once properly aligned, the box is pressed firmly into place, engaging the adhesive strips to create a secure bond.
  4. Cable Management: The conduit box lid is then removed, allowing for the attachment of conduit to the box and the routing of cables through the desired knockouts. This step is crucial for organizing and protecting the wiring.
  5. Final Assembly: After cables are routed, the lid is re-attached using the four M4x8mm screws, completing the installation and enclosing the connections.

For BMA 360:

  1. Attachment to BMA: The conduit box is attached directly to the back of the BMA 360 unit using six M3x8mm screws. This mechanical fastening provides a strong and reliable connection.
  2. Cable Management: Similar to the CT/CTH model, the conduit box lid is removed to facilitate the attachment of conduit and the routing of cables through the available knockouts. The BMA 360 model offers 12 concentric knockouts, providing ample options for complex wiring setups.
  3. Final Assembly: Once all cables are routed, the lid is re-attached using the four M4x8mm screws, securing the connections within the box.

The design emphasizes a clean and professional finish, with all connections neatly contained within the box, out of sight and protected. The ability to route various types of cables (speaker, CP2/P-Link, PoE) through dedicated knockouts streamlines the installation process and reduces clutter.

Maintenance Features:

While the conduit box itself requires minimal maintenance, its design facilitates easy access for system maintenance or modifications.

  • Removable Lid: The most significant maintenance feature is the removable lid, secured by four M4x8mm screws. This allows technicians to easily access the internal wiring and connections without having to remove the entire conduit box or the BMA unit from the ceiling. This is particularly useful for:
    • Troubleshooting: If a cable connection needs to be checked or re-seated.
    • Upgrades/Modifications: When new cables need to be added, existing ones replaced, or the wiring configuration changed.
    • Inspection: Periodic checks of cable integrity and connection security.
  • Durable Construction: The robust construction of the conduit box, combined with the high-temperature rated adhesive (for CT/CTH models) and secure screw attachments, ensures long-term reliability and reduces the need for frequent repairs or replacements.
  • Protection: By enclosing the connections, the conduit box protects them from dust, debris, and accidental damage, which contributes to the longevity and stable operation of the BMA unit and its associated cabling. This protective aspect inherently reduces maintenance needs related to damaged wiring.

The ClearOne Conduit Box is an integral component for professional installations of BMA CT, CTH, and BMA 360 units, ensuring secure, organized, and accessible cable management. Its thoughtful design, specific to each BMA model, underscores ClearOne's commitment to ease of installation and long-term system reliability.
