Overview

The Clover Mini is a payment terminal designed to replace existing external payment systems, particularly when the primary credit card system is not operational. It is a secure device capable of accepting various card types and transaction methods.

Function Description:

The Clover Mini securely processes chip-and-pin and chip-and-signature EMV cards. It also facilitates credit and debit card transactions via swipe, insert, or tap, offering flexibility for different card types and customer preferences. Each unit is configured for a specific location, ensuring tailored functionality. The device features a mag stripe reader for traditional swipe transactions, an EMV card "dip" slot for chip cards, and an integrated thermal printer for receipts. It also includes a front-facing camera, an audio jack, and a SIM card slot, though the specific use cases for these features in a typical transaction flow are not detailed in the provided information.

Usage Features:

The device's initial screen displays the location and offers options for "EMPLOYEE" or "MANAGER" mode. To begin payment processing, an employee taps "unlock." Managers, however, must enter a PIN to access manager-specific options, which include processing refunds.

For sales transactions, the system requires all sales to be entered using the "MANUAL OPTION ONLY." After tapping "unlock," the user will see a screen with a "TAP MANUAL ONLY" button. Tapping this button brings up a numeric keypad where the amount of the sale is entered. The system automatically adds tax based on the user's location. After entering the amount, the user taps "CHARGE," then selects "Credit/Debit."

For chip cards, the customer inserts the card into the EMV slot. If the card is not chip-enabled, it can be swiped. The device will prompt the customer to "REMOVE CARD" and then to provide a signature using their finger on the screen. Once the signature is complete, the employee taps "DONE," then "VERIFY." The device will then print a receipt, and the employee can choose to print a customer receipt. After the transaction, the employee can tap the Home key to return to the Main Screen.

The Clover Mini supports pre-authorization, requiring a code to be acquired and input prior to verification. Managers have the ability to review transaction history and reprint receipts. The device is programmed to close automatically at midnight.

Maintenance Features:

For daily operations, managers are responsible for ensuring the device is in "EMPLOYEE mode" after any management tasks are completed. This involves returning to the initial store screen and tapping "UNLOCK" to switch back to employee mode. All devices must remain connected and should not be unplugged.

In terms of support, users are instructed to call Clover directly for assistance. Only Clover support personnel are authorized to help with device issues. Merchant ID numbers (MID) are displayed on the device, typically found under the Clover support phone number, which can be useful for identification during support calls.

The device's screen allows for swiping left or right to navigate through different screen options. For security purposes, the device will time out if left inactive.

Refunds are a management-only function. While debit card refunds can be processed, they are not handled as debit transactions in the same way a sale would be. This implies a specific process for refunds that differs from standard sales.
