Overview

This document is a user manual for a COBY Portable Air Conditioner, models CBPAC815 and CBPAC815H.

Function Description

The COBY Portable Air Conditioner is designed to provide cooling, dehumidification, and fan functions. Model CBPAC815H also includes a heating function. It is a portable unit with casters for easy placement and is intended for household use. The appliance can be operated via a control panel on the unit or a remote control.

Modes of Operation:

  • COOL Mode: Ideal for hot weather, allowing users to set a desired room temperature between 64°F (18°C) and 95°F (35°C). Fan speed can be set to HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW.
  • DEHUMIDIFY Mode: Reduces humidity in the room. The fan motor operates at LOW speed automatically, and temperature cannot be adjusted. Keeping windows and doors closed is recommended for best effect. Exhaust hose attachment is not strictly required but recommended in very humid rooms.
  • FAN Mode: Circulates air without cooling or heating. Users can select HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW fan speed. Temperature cannot be adjusted, and the exhaust hose is not required.
  • HEAT Mode (CBPAC815H only): Provides heating, allowing users to set a desired room temperature between 45°F (7°C) and 81°F (27°C). Fan speed can be set to HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW. There may be a short delay before hot air is emitted.

Additional Features:

  • Timer Function: Allows setting an AUTO STOP timer (when the unit is ON) or an AUTO START timer (when the unit is OFF) for up to 24 hours in 1-hour increments.
  • Swing Function: Activates the air swing of the louvers, moving them up and down for better air distribution.
  • Sleep Function: Gradually adjusts the temperature to provide a comfortable sleeping environment. In COOL mode, the temperature increases 1°F after an hour and 2°F after two hours. In HEAT mode, the temperature decreases 1°F after an hour and 2°F after two hours.
  • °C/°F Selector: Allows switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperature displays.
  • LCDI Power Cord: Equipped with a Leakage Current Detection and Interruption power cord for safety, which disconnects power if leakage current occurs. It includes TEST and RESET buttons.
  • Water Drainage: The unit features auto water evaporation, so drainage is typically only required at the end of the season in cooling or heating modes, or when the "FULL TANK" indicator light illuminates (error codes E2 for COOL, E4 for HEAT). Intermittent and continuous drainage options are available.

Usage Features

Installation:

  • The unit should be placed on a firm, smooth, level floor strong enough to support its weight to minimize noise and vibration.
  • Allow 12 to 36 inches of space from the wall with a window for efficient air-conditioning.
  • The unit must be within reach of a properly rated grounded socket.
  • Window Slider Kit: Designed for most standard "Vertical" and "Horizontal" window applications, with a minimum opening of 29.5" (75 cm) and a maximum of 59" (150 cm). The kit can be adjusted and secured with locking screws. If the window opening is less than 29.5", the slider kit can be cut, but the hole in the kit should never be cut. Foam seals are used to secure the kit and seal gaps.
  • Exhaust Hose Installation: The air exhaust hose and hose inlet/outlet are connected by threading them clockwise. The hose inlet aligns with slots on the unit's air outlet. The hose outlet is inserted into the window panel and secured with the window slider kit. The exhaust hose should be kept as short as possible and free of sharp bends. It is connected for COOL, DEHUMIDIFY, and HEAT modes, but disconnected for FAN mode.

Operation:

  • Turning On/Off: Press the power button on the control panel or remote. Always wait a few minutes before unplugging after turning off to allow the appliance to perform a cycle of checks.
  • Mode Selection: Use the MODE button to cycle through COOL, DEHUMIDIFY, FAN, and HEAT (if applicable).
  • Temperature Adjustment: Use the INCREASE/DECREASE buttons to set the desired temperature in COOL or HEAT modes.
  • Fan Speed Adjustment: Use the FAN SPEED button to select HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW in COOL, FAN, or HEAT modes. In DEHUMIDIFY mode, fan speed is automatic.
  • Remote Control Usage: Point the remote control at the receiver on the appliance. Handle with care; do not drop or expose to direct sunlight or heat.

Safety Guidelines:

  • Always ensure proper grounding. Do not cut or remove the grounding prong.
  • Do not use if the power cord is frayed or damaged.
  • Do not use adapters or extension cords.
  • Do not block airflow around the unit or obstruct grilles.
  • Unplug before servicing or moving.
  • Do not operate in areas with combustible gases, oily/sulphurous atmosphere, or near bathtubs/showers.
  • Do not place objects on top of the unit.
  • Never operate without filters.
  • Supervise children to prevent them from playing with the appliance.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified service agent.
  • Install in accordance with national wiring regulations.
  • Test the LCDI plug before each use.
  • Ensure the plug fits tightly into the wall outlet to prevent fire risk.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning & Care:

  • Before Cleaning: Always turn off the appliance and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  • Cleaning the Cabinet: Wipe with a slightly damp cloth, then dry with a dry cloth. Do not saturate with water, and avoid using petrol, alcohol, solvents, or insecticide sprays.
  • Cleaning the Filter: Clean the evaporator filter weekly for efficient operation. Remove dust with a vacuum cleaner. If very dirty, immerse in lukewarm water, rinse, and allow to dry thoroughly before re-inserting.

Water Drainage:

  • Intermittent Draining: When the "FULL TANK" indicator light illuminates or error codes E2/E4 appear, unplug the unit, move it to a drain area, remove the bottom drain cap, and let the water drain. Replace the cap and restart.
  • Continuous Draining: Unplug the unit, remove the bottom drain cap, and connect the supplied drain hose to allow water to continuously drain into a floor drain or drip tray.

Start-End of Season Operations:

  • Start of Season Checks: Verify power cable and plug are undamaged. Follow installation instructions precisely.
  • End of Season Operations: Ensure the air conditioner is completely drained of water. Clean and thoroughly dry the filter before reinstalling.

Troubleshooting:

  • A troubleshooting chart is provided to address common issues such as the unit not working, poor cooling effect, loud noise, compressor not working, remote control issues, and display error codes (E1, E2).
  • Users are advised not to troubleshoot internal components themselves and to contact W Appliance Co. customer service or an authorized service center for problems that cannot be resolved with the troubleshooting guide.
  • Important Note: Servicing should only be performed by qualified personnel, especially for units using flammable refrigerants (R32/R290).
