If the remote control for your Coby DVD player isn't working, first, make sure there's nothing blocking the path between the remote and the player. Aim the remote directly at the remote sensor on the player. Then, check that the batteries are correctly installed, paying attention to the polarities. If it still doesn't work, try replacing the batteries.
