Key Terms
The following table provides definitions of some key terms that are used
throughout this Guide .
Term Description
AFIS
Automated Fingerprint Identification System
Bluetooth
Wireless technology that enables the BlueCheck
device to connect to the MobileID application
Hit
A determination that a print stored in the CAFIS
database may match the print input for a search. CAFIS
matches prints by comparing the attribute maps of each
of the prints stored in the database with the attribute
map of the search print, and assigns them a score that
ranks the degree of similarity between the search print
and the file prints.
LACRIS
Los Angeles County Regional Identification System
LAFIS
LACRIS Automated Fingerprint Identification System
Match
A print in the CAFIS database that is known to match a
print input into
CAFIS for a search. Before the
examiner confirms the match, the print is considered a
candidate or potential hit (See
Hit ).
