Use
Before use:
• The charger must be connected to a12 V battery. Check therating plate.
• Place thecharger as far away as possible from thebattery.
• Never place thecharger over or under thebattery.
Connecting the charger
• For most vehicles thecharger can be connected to thebattery whilst connected
to themains. If this is allowed, follow theinstructions in theCharging abattery in
avehicle section.
• If thebattery must be disconnected from thevehicle before charging, follow
theinstructions in thesection Charging abattery out of avehicle.
• The charger clamp that ISN’T connected to thechassis must be connected
first. The other charger clamp should be connected to thechassis away from
thebattery and vehicle’s fuel supply. Only when these connections have been
made should thecharger be connected to themains.
Charging a battery in a vehicle
Connection
1. Connect thepositive (red) charger clamp to thepositive terminal of thebattery.
2. Connect thenegative (black) charger clamp to thenegative terminal of
thebattery, OR to thevehicle’s chassis or engine block.
Disconnection
1. Turn off thecharger and pull theplug from themains.
2. Remove theblack (negative) charge clamp from thenegative
terminal/chassis/engine block.
3. Remove thered (positive) charger clamp from thebattery.
4. Replace thebattery’s terminal covers if any.
Charging a battery out of a vehicle
Connection
1. Connect thered (positive) charger clamp to thebattery’s positive terminal (+) and
theblack (negative) to thebattery’s negative terminal (-).
Disconnection
1. Turn off thecharger and pull theplug from themains.
2. Remove theblack (negative) charger clamp from thebattery.
3. Remove thered (positive) charger clamp from thebattery.
4. Replace thebattery’s terminal covers, if any.
