Overview

The COLBOR BP90 is a 90cm Bowens Para Softbox designed to modify light for photography and videography. It is a versatile light modifier that helps create soft, even illumination, making it suitable for various shooting scenarios, from portraits to product photography.

Function Description:

The primary function of the COLBOR BP90 is to diffuse and shape light from a compatible light source (typically a strobe or continuous light with a Bowens mount). It achieves this by using multiple layers of diffusion material and a reflective interior to spread light evenly, reducing harsh shadows and creating a more flattering output. The parabolic shape of the softbox helps to focus the light, providing a more controlled and directional beam compared to standard softboxes, while still maintaining softness. The inclusion of an internal soft cloth, an external soft cloth, and a grille allows for various levels of light modification, from very soft and broad to more directional with increased contrast.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Unfold Dimension: Ø90cm x 62cm. This indicates a diameter of 90cm and a depth of 62cm when fully assembled, providing a substantial surface area for light diffusion.
  • Packaging Dimension: 88cm x 25cm x 13cm. This highlights its compact storage size, making it relatively portable despite its large unfolded size.
  • Weight: 2kg. This suggests a lightweight construction, which is beneficial for transport and setup, especially when used on light stands.
  • Material: Aluminum Alloy Soft Cloth. The use of aluminum alloy likely refers to the frame or mounting mechanism, providing durability and stability, while the soft cloth refers to the diffusion and reflective materials.
  • Mount Type: Bowens Mount. This is a widely adopted standard in the lighting industry, ensuring compatibility with a broad range of studio strobes and LED lights from various manufacturers.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The manual outlines a straightforward installation process. It begins with taking out the product, followed by installing the internal soft cloth, then the external soft cloth, and finally the grille. This modular approach allows users to customize the level of diffusion.
  • Internal and External Soft Cloths: The inclusion of two diffusion layers (internal and external) provides flexibility in light quality. The internal diffuser helps to further soften the light from the source before it reaches the main diffusion surface, while the external diffuser provides the final layer of softening.
  • Grille (Honeycomb Grid): The grille is an important accessory for controlling light spill and narrowing the beam angle. It helps to create a more focused light output with a sharper fall-off, which is useful for accentuating subjects or creating dramatic lighting effects. The grille attaches via Velcro, making it easy to add or remove.
  • Para Softbox Design: The parabolic shape is designed to produce a distinct light quality—often described as having more "punch" and directionality than a traditional rectangular or octagonal softbox, while still maintaining a soft, wrap-around quality.
  • Quick Assembly/Disassembly Mechanism: The softbox features a mechanism for quick setup and breakdown. For installation, users buckle the handles on both sides and lift them vigorously. For disassembly, pressing the two top rods of the buckle with both hands loosens the buckle, allowing the softbox to collapse. This design aims to simplify on-location use and storage.
  • Portability: With a weight of 2kg and compact packaging dimensions, the BP90 is designed for easy transport, supported by the inclusion of a carrying bag.

Maintenance Features:

  • Care Instructions: The manual provides clear guidelines for product care to ensure longevity and prevent damage. These include:
    • Keeping corrosive chemicals, liquids, and heat sources away from the product to prevent mechanical damage.
    • Not leaving the product unattended while in use and keeping it out of reach of children.
    • The product is not waterproof; therefore, it should not be handled with wet hands.
    • Avoiding disassembly or modification of the product, as this voids the warranty.
  • Professional Repair: In case of malfunctions, users are advised to have the product checked or repaired by authorized technicians. This emphasizes the importance of professional service to maintain the product's integrity and warranty.
  • Warranty Coverage: COLBOR products come with a 30-day free replacement or repair service for quality defects under normal use, and a 12-month limited warranty for material or technological problems. This provides assurance for users regarding product quality and potential issues.
  • Warranty Exclusions: The warranty explicitly excludes faults resulting from inappropriate use, artificial damage (e.g., crash, scratch, soaking), unauthorized modifications, inconsistencies in product codes, and damage from force majeure (e.g., fire, flood). This clarifies the scope of warranty coverage and encourages proper handling.
  • Warranty Claim Procedure: A clear procedure is outlined for warranty claims, advising users to contact a local agent or COLBOR's customer service via email. It also stresses the importance of retaining sales receipts and warranty certificates as proof of purchase.

In summary, the COLBOR BP90 is a professional-grade 90cm Bowens Para Softbox offering advanced light shaping capabilities, user-friendly assembly, and robust construction, backed by comprehensive care and warranty information. Its design caters to photographers and videographers seeking high-quality, versatile, and portable lighting solutions.
