Overview

This document is a Use and Care Guide for a Commercial Electric Dual Color LED Exit/Emergency Light.

Function Description:

This device serves as a dual-purpose lighting fixture, providing both an illuminated exit sign and emergency lighting. It is designed to operate on AC power for normal illumination and automatically switch to battery backup in the event of a power outage, ensuring continuous illumination of the exit path and surrounding area. The "dual color" feature allows the user to select between red and green lenses for the exit sign, accommodating different local codes and preferences. The emergency light heads are adjustable to direct illumination where needed most.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Item #: 1003 866 837
  • Model #: EECLEDRG120277
  • Power Source: Operates on AC power (120 V or 277 V applications) and includes a battery backup.
  • Battery Type: Ni-Cd Rechargeable AA700 mAh 9.6 V battery.
  • Battery Backup Duration: Minimum of 90 minutes on battery backup power.
  • Mounting Height: Maximum mounting height is 35.31 ft (10.76 m).
  • Operating Environment: Indoor use only.
  • Compliance: Tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Installation must be in accordance with local codes, ordinances, and the National Electric Code.

Usage Features:

  • Dual Color Selection: The exit sign can display either red or green text. Users can change the color by replacing the preinstalled red lens with a green lens (included) and adjusting a color selection switch inside the unit.
  • Adjustable Emergency Heads: The two emergency light heads are independently adjustable, allowing users to position them to maximize illumination of the exit path or other critical areas during an emergency.
  • Single or Double-Sided Application: The fixture supports both single-sided and double-sided exit sign configurations. For double-sided use, the backplate is removed and replaced with a second faceplate. Note that double-sided applications are only compatible with a ceiling mount.
  • Mounting Options: The device can be installed in three ways:
    • Ceiling Mount: Attaches to a junction box on the ceiling using a JBOX mounting plate and canopy.
    • Wall Mount: Attaches to a junction box on the wall using the backplate.

  • Test Button: A test button is provided to verify the functionality of the emergency lighting system. When pressed, the AC Power LED indicator turns off, and the exit sign and emergency heads illuminate, simulating a power outage.
  • AC Power Indicator: An LED indicator (AC ON) shows when the unit is receiving AC power.
  • Battery Connection: The backup battery connects to a terminal located in the lower right corner of the fixture. It is recommended to plug in the battery during installation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Testing: National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA life safety code regulations require routine tests.
    • Monthly Test: Test the unit's battery once per month using the test button.
    • Annual Test: A full 90-minute test should be performed every 12 months. This involves disconnecting the unit from the main power supply to verify that the EXIT sign and emergency heads illuminate for a minimum of 90 minutes on battery backup power.
  • Battery Replacement: The Ni-Cd Rechargeable AA700 mAh 9.6 V battery is replaceable. Instructions are provided for safely removing the old battery and connecting a new one.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A troubleshooting section helps users diagnose common issues such as the LED charge indicator not illuminating or emergency heads not illuminating, providing possible causes and solutions.
