BASIC
PROGRAMMING
Introduction
At
the
heart
of
the
computer
is
programming.
If
pro
gramming
is
the
heart
of
the
Commodore
16,
then
BASIC
language
is
the
lifeblood.
A
language
is
what
you
use
to
communicate
with
your
computer.
The
computer
understands
the
terms
(or
keywords)
that
make
up
the
language,
and
interprets
them
as
in
structions.
Your
computer
has
a
version
of
BASIC
built
in
called
BASIC
3.5.
This
version
contains
many
terms
not
found
in
other
BASICS
over
100
key
words
in
all.
In
the
following
sections
on
Sound
and
Music
and
Graphics
and
Color,
you'll
see
some
dif
ferent
BASIC
terms
being
used
in
different
ways.
Communicating
With Your
Commodore
16
There
are
two
different
ways
to
communicate
with
your
computer:
immediate
(directly)
in
a
program
(indirectly)
Direct
communication
means
that
you
give
your
orders
directly
and
the
computer
carries
them
out
right
away,
like
this:
PRINT
"ANYTHING"
When
you
press
JlEfFUfiN^,
this
tells
the
computer
to
print
what
is
between
the
quotes
immediately.
