Overview

The device is a Technique™ by Cook's Essentials® Digital Pressure Cooker, Model # DYB350. It is an electric appliance designed for both pressure cooking and slow cooking, offering convenience and versatility in meal preparation.

Function Description:

The Technique Digital Pressure Cooker operates as both a pressure cooker and a slow cooker. As a pressure cooker, it confines steam to increase the internal temperature by 38 degrees Fahrenheit, raising the boiling point of liquids and decreasing cooking time. The steam also creates pressure that breaks down food fibers, resulting in tender, melt-in-your-mouth food that retains water-soluble nutrients, flavors, and colors. The digital control panel allows users to select between low and high pressure modes, set cooking times, and initiate the cooking process. Once the desired pressure is reached, the timer automatically counts down. Upon completion of the cooking cycle, the cooker automatically switches to a "Keep Warm" mode for up to four hours, after which it turns itself off.

In addition to pressure cooking, the device can be used for slow cooking with a glass lid. It offers three temperature cook modes: low, medium, and high. The high cook mode is suitable for browning and searing meats before pressure cooking, or for rapidly reducing stocks for sauces and gravies. The medium and low cook modes are ideal for traditional slow cooking. The timer can be set for these modes as well, and the cooker will switch to "Keep Warm" mode after the cycle.

A rapid release button is included, allowing users to quickly release steam and pressure during the cook cycle to add additional ingredients, reducing the time needed for natural pressure drop.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: 5-quart removable inner pot.
  • Inner Pot Material: Heavy-duty, anodized aluminum.
  • Exterior Housing Material: Stainless steel.

  • Timer Range (Slow Cook Mode): 1 minute to 8 hours.
  • Keep Warm Cycle: Up to 4.5 hours, followed by approximately one hour of residual warmth.

  • Pre-cooking Tips: Thawing and searing meats, and bringing liquid to a boil can reduce the time it takes for the cooker to reach pressure.
  • Safety Features: Red "Lock" button on the pressure lid handle indicates proper locking. The unit will not open until all steam and pressure have been released and the red float valve has dropped.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
    • The inner pot, pressure lid, and glass lid are immersible and can be washed with warm, soapy water using a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse and towel dry.
    • The main housing unit should be wiped with a damp soft cloth or sponge (glass cleaner can be used for luster). Do not immerse the main housing unit or power cord in water.
    • The rubber gasket should be removed from the lid, washed with warm, soapy water, and checked for cleanliness, flexibility, and tears. It must be properly positioned on the underside of the lid before each use.
    • The pressure valve should be removed after each use and cleaned with the provided pin to clear any debris.
    • The vent nozzle and float valve should be checked for clogging before each use.
    • The meat rack can be washed with hot, soapy water and a sponge or cloth.
    • Avoid abrasive cleaners, powders, bicarbonate of soda, bleach, or scouring pads on any parts.
  • Gasket Replacement: The gasket may need replacing if it hardens from disuse or becomes damaged, as it is crucial for forming an airtight seal. Only gaskets of the correct type and size for this pressure cooker should be used.
  • Power Cord Inspection: Before each use, inspect the power cord for cuts or marks. If any damage is found, the appliance should be serviced and the power cord replaced by a qualified repair person.
