Attaching the Battery Cables
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65
Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknowntothe Stateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)
wiretoits terminalfirst,followedbytheNEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthave
beenleftdisconnectedfromtheterminalsat the factory.Toconnect
thebatterycables,proceedas follows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+).Thenegative
batteryterminalis markedNeg.(i).
1. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminaland attachthe redcableto thepositivebatteryterminal
(+)withtheboltandhexnut.See Figure1.
2. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe negativebattery
terminaland attachtheblackcabletothe negativebattery
terminal(-) withtheboltandhexnut.SeeFigure1.

3. Positionthe redrubberbootoverthepositivebatteryterminalto
helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
NOTE:If thebatteryisput into serviceafterthe dateshownon topof
battery,chargethe batteryas instructedintheService& Maintenance
sectionof this manualpriortooperatingthe tractor.
Shipping Brace Removal
Makesuretheridingmower'sengineisoff,removetheignitionkey,
andset the parkingbrakebeforeremovingthe shippingbrace.Refer
Itothe Operationsectionforinstructionsonhowto setthe parking
lbrake.
• Locatethe shippingbrace,ifpresent,andaccompanyingwarning
tagfoundonthe rightsideofthe mower,betweenthe discharge
chutedeflectorandthecuttingdeck. SeeFig.2.

Placethe decklift leverinthehighestcuttingposition.Referto
SettingtheCuttingHeightin the Operationsectionof thismanual.
Whilepushingthedischargechuteddlectortowardsthemachinewith
yourlefthand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygrasp-
ingitbetweenyourthumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Theshippingbrace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly,mustbe
removedand discardedbeforeoperatingyour ridingmower.
Themowingdeck iscapableofthrowingobjects.Failureto operate
the ridingmowerwithoutthe dischargecoverin the properoperating
Ipositioncould resultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
Ifthesteeringwheelfor yourtractordid notcomeattached,the
hardwarefor attachingit has beenpackedwithinthesteeringwheel,
beneaththe steeringwheelcap.Carefullypry off thesteeringwheel
capandremovethe hardware.
1. Withthe wheelsof the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthesteeringshaft.
2. Placethewasher(withthe cuppedsidedown) overthe steering
wheelandsecurewiththe hexbolt.SeeFig.3.
