thepossibilityofflippingthe tractoroverbackward.
ENGAGING THE BLADES
Engagingthe PTO(BladeEngage)transferspowertothe cuttingdeck
orother(separatelyavailable)attachments.Toengagethe blades,
proceedas follows:
1. Movethethrottle/chokecontrolleverto the FAST(rabbit)position.
2. Graspthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotit all the way
forwardintotheengaged(ON)position.
3. Keepthe throttleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)positionforthe most
efficientuseof thecuttingdeckor other(separatelyavailable)
attachments.
iMPORTANT: Inthe ReverseCautionModetheenginewillauto-
maticallyshutoff ifthe PTOisengagedwiththespeedcontrollever
inpositionfor reversetravelwiththe ignitionkeyinthe NORMAL
MOWINGposition.
USING THE DECK LIFT LEVER
Toraisethecuttingdeck,movethe decklift levertothe left,then place
itin thenotchbestsuitedforyourapplication.Referto SettingThe
CuttingHeightearlierinthis section.
MOWING
Tohelpavoidbladecontactor a thrownobjectinjury,keepbystand-
ers,helpers,childrenandpetsat least75feetfromthemachine
whileitis inoperation.Stop machineif anyoneentersthearea.
Thefollowinginformationwillbehelpfulwhenusingthe cuttingdeck
withyourtractor:
Planyourmowingpatterntoavoiddischargeof materialstoward
roads,sidewalks,bystandersandthe like.Also,avoiddischarging
materialagainsta wallor obstructionwhichmaycausedischarged
materialto ricochetbacktowardtheoperator.
• Do not mowat highgroundspeed,especiallyif a mulchkitor
grasscollectorisinstalled.
• For bestresultsit is recommendedthatthefirsttwolapsbecut
withthedischargethrowntowardsthecenter.Afterthe first two
laps,reversethe directiontothrowthe dischargeto the outside
forthe balanceof cutting.Thiswill givea betterappearanceto the
lawn.
• Do notcut thegrasstooshort.Shortgrassinvitesweedgrowth
andyellowsquicklyindryweather.
• Mowingshouldalwaysbedonewiththe engineatfull throttle.
• Underheavierconditionsit maybenecessarytogo backoverthe
cutareaa secondtimetogeta cleancut.
• Do NOTattempttomowheavybrushandweedsandextremely
tallgrass.Yourtractorisdesignedto mowlawns,NOTclear
brush.
• Keepthe bladessharpandreplacethebladeswhenworn.Refer
toCuttingBladesin the ServiceandMaintenencesectionof this
manualfor properbladesharpeninginstructions.

MOVING THE TRACTOR MANUALLY
Yourtractor'stransmissionisequippedwitha hydrostaticreliefvalve
foroccasionswhenit is necessaryto movethetractormanually.
Activatingthisvalveforcesthe fluid in thetransmissionto bypassits
normalroute,allowingthereartiresto "freewheel."Toengagethe
hydrostaticreliefvalve,proceedasfollows:
1. Locatethehydrostaticbypassrodinthe rearofthe tractor.See
Fig.10.

2. Pullthehydrostaticbypassrodoutward,thendownandtothe left,
to lockit in place.
NOTE:Thetransmissionwill NOTengagewhenthehydrostatic
bypassrodispulledout. Returnthe rodto itsnormalpositionpriorto
operatingthe tractor.
iMPORTANT:Neverattemptto movethe tractormanuallywithout
firstengagingthehydrostaticreliefvalve.Doingso will resultinserious
damageto thetractor'stransmission.
HEADLIGHTS
• The lampsare ONwheneverthe tractor'sengineis running.
• The lampsturn OFFwhentheignitionkeyismovedtothe STOP
