Overview

The Cricut Joy Xtra™ is a compact, desktop smart cutting machine designed for DIY crafters to create a wide range of crafting projects. It functions by taking images created in the Cricut Design Space software environment and precisely recreating them on various materials like paper and vinyl through cutting and writing. The machine's mechanical design is similar to a small desktop printer or plotter, utilizing an electrically driven head that moves cutting/drawing tools laterally and feed rollers that move crafting materials longitudinally. This combination of movements provides 2-axis motion, enabling the machine to perform desired actions such as cutting and drawing on crafting materials in a 2-dimensional plane.

Usage Features:

To get started with your Cricut Joy Xtra, first ensure it is properly powered on. Connect the included power adapter to the machine, then plug the other end into a compatible wall outlet. The machine connects to a compatible device via Bluetooth®. Once connected, activate the machine at cricut.com/setup.

The machine features an Indicator Light that provides visual cues about its status:

  • Solid: Indicates the machine is ready to use.
  • 50% Brightness: Indicates the machine is idle.
  • Slow Pulse: Means the machine is searching for a Bluetooth® connection.
  • Fast Pulse: Signifies that an update is in progress.
  • Flash: Prompts you to see the Cricut app for directions.
  • Red: Indicates an error.
  • Off: Means there is no power source.

Changing tools is a straightforward process. To replace a tool, open the Tool Clamp (1) and remove the existing tool. Firmly seat the new tool in place, then close the clamp (3).

Loading materials into the machine depends on whether you are using a machine mat or Smart Materials™.

  • Loading a machine mat with material: First, remove the protective clear cover from the mat. Align your material onto the mat, starting from the top left corner. When prompted by the machine, insert the mat between the Material Guides (2).
  • Loading Smart Materials™: When prompted, position the Smart Material directly between the Material Guides (2).

For optimal operation, place the machine on a strong, flat, level, and stable surface. Ensure your workspace has enough space in front and back of the machine to allow the machine mat to move freely.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Cricut Joy Xtra.

  • Cleaning: Only clean the machine with a soft cloth dampened with glass cleaner or water. Do not use any flammable liquid, solvents like acetone, or nail polish remover, as these can permanently damage the machine's surfaces.
  • Blade Replacement: Always unplug the machine before replacing the blade. Blades are extremely sharp and must be handled with caution and extreme care to prevent injury. Keep blades and other small parts away from children, as they are choking hazards. For detailed instructions on blade replacement, refer to the blade packaging or visit help.cricut.com/blades.
  • Troubleshooting: If the machine or cord is damaged, do not operate it. Contact Cricut Member Care for service at cricut.com/contact or 1-877-727-4288.
  • Power Cord Handling: Position the power cord so it will not drape over countertops or tabletops, preventing accidental trips, snags, or pulls, especially by children.
  • Star Wheels: Be cautious when moving the star wheels while the machine is in material loading mode, as this can result in pinched fingers. To avoid pinching, move the star wheels all the way to the right before choosing material type for projects that use the Foil Transfer Tool and/or Card Mat.

Safety Precautions:

It is crucial to read the entire document before setting up, operating, or servicing your Cricut Joy Xtra. Follow all enclosed instructions, online instructions, and other official Cricut instructional materials.

  • Adult Operation: The machine is intended for operation by adults only and is not suitable for children 12 years or under. Always supervise children around the machine.
  • Intended Use: Use the machine only for its intended crafting purpose.
  • Indoor Use Only: The machine is designed for indoor use in dry locations only. Do not use it in or near water, and never immerse it in water or any other liquid.
  • Supervision: The machine is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or cognitive capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety and familiar with the safe operation of the machine.
  • Power Disconnection: Disconnect the electrical power by unplugging the machine before servicing or cleaning. Always grasp the plug, not the cord, to disconnect from the electrical outlet.
  • No Tampering: Do not open, modify, or otherwise tamper with the machine.
  • Approved Adapters: Use only Cricut-approved power adapters.
  • Moving Parts: Do not place fingers or other objects in the machine while it is connected to electrical power, powered on, or during operations. Keep hair, jewelry, loose clothing, fingers, other body parts, and any other items that could get caught in the moving parts away from the machine while it is operating. The rapid movements of the carriage, mat, and material during operation can cause injury.
  • Material Handling: Do not touch the mat or material during machine operation, even if it stops moving. Wait until the machine ejects the mat or material before touching it.
  • Storage: Never leave or store the machine outside, in unheated or unairconditioned spaces, or in environments where it can come into contact with water.
