Overview

The IndiTop is a sensor unit designed to integrate with a PLC's Input/Output (I/O) system, providing feedback signals and enabling remote setup for valve control. It is specifically designed to be mounted on top of an actuator, with a magnet fixing it in place. The device is robust, featuring an IP66/67 protection class, making it suitable for various industrial environments.

Function Description:

The IndiTop serves as a position feedback sensor for valves, indicating whether the valve is in a de-energized (SP1) or energized (SP2) state. It receives power and sends feedback signals to a connected PLC. The unit supports both local push-button setup and remote setup via the PLC, offering flexibility in configuration. It is capable of saving two distinct positions: SP1 for the de-energized state and SP2 for the energized state. This allows for precise monitoring and control of valve positions. The device is designed with reverse polarity and short-circuit protection, enhancing its reliability and safety within an industrial control system.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Protection Class: IP66/67, indicating high resistance to dust and water ingress.
  • Supply Voltage: Operates within a range of 8 - 30 V DC/AC.
  • Supply Voltage Nominal: 24 V DC/AC (RMS) with a tolerance of -15%/+20% as per EN 61131-2:2003.
  • Max. Ripple: 5% of nominal supply voltage.
  • Supply Voltage Absolute Max: 30 V DC/AC.
  • Supply Voltage Absolute Min: 8 V DC/AC.
  • Supply Current: Maximum 45 mA (Note: Initial current during power-on is higher, with typical values ranging from 150mA RMS during 13 ms for regulated power supplies to 360 mA RMS during 8 ms for unregulated power supplies).
  • Feedback Signals:
    • Nominal Voltage: Same as supply voltage.
    • Load Current: Typically 50 mA, maximum 100 mA.
    • Voltage Drop: Typically 3 V at 100 mA.
  • Power Supply Requirements: Must be supplied by an isolating source complying with the requirements for class 2 power units (UL1310) or class 2 and 3 transformers (UL1585) to fulfill UL508 requirements.
  • Wiring Connections:
    • Red: +/L1 (8-30V DC/AC)
    • Black: -/N
    • Green: SP1 (De-energized)
    • Yellow: SP2 (Energized)
    • Brown: PNP (+ or L1)/NPN (- or N) - for switching between PNP/NPN by connecting the brown wire to either +/L1 (PNP) or -/N (NPN).
    • Orange: Remote setup bit (if not used, connect to +/L1).
  • Plug Version Pin Connections:
    • 1: -/N
    • 2: SP2 (Energized)
    • 3: SP1 (De-energized)
    • 4: +/L1 (8-30V DC/AC)
    • 5: Remote setup bit (if not used, connect to +/L1 (pin4)).

Usage Features:

  • Mounting: The IndiTop is designed to fit over the magnet and the "mushrooms" – front opposite air fitting – of the actuator. It is secured with two allen screws, tightened to a maximum torque of 2.5 Nm.
  • Local Setup (Push Button):
    1. Entering Setup: Press and hold "SP2" + "Enter" until the blue LED starts to flash (3 seconds).
    2. Clearing Saved Positions: Press "Enter" until all LEDs turn ON in a sequence (blue-green-yellow) and flash once (3 seconds). This clears previously saved positions.
    3. Setting SP1 (De-energized): De-energize the valve. Press the "SP1" button until the "SP1" LED becomes steady ON (3 seconds). SP1 is intended as the return position of the valve in case of a power breakdown.
    4. Setting SP2 (Energized): Energize the valve. Press the "SP2" button until the "SP2" LED becomes steady ON (3 seconds). SP2 is the opposite of SP1, i.e., energized.
    5. Exiting Setup: Press and hold "SP2" + "Enter" until the blue LED becomes steady (3 seconds).
    6. Verification: Verify saved positions by energizing/de-energizing the valve and checking if the correct LED (SP1 for de-energized, SP2 for energized) is lit.
  • Remote Setup (PLC):
    • The remote setup can be done either by a simple PLC program or by manual bit (tag) control.
    • The "Remote Setup Bit" must always be connected to +/L1 if the remote setup feature is not used.
    • Flow Chart for Remote Setup:
      1. Start PLC setup program.
      2. Clear Remote bit.
      3. Check if SP1 bit is set.
  • If No: Proceed to Energize valve.
  • If Yes (De-energized): Proceed to Energize valve. 4. Energize valve. 5. Check if SP2 bit is set.
  • If No: Proceed to De-energize valve.
  • If Yes (Energized): Proceed to De-energize valve. 6. De-energize valve. 7. Set remote bit. 8. End PLC setup program.

Maintenance Features:

The manual does not explicitly detail maintenance features beyond the initial setup and wiring. However, its robust IP66/67 protection class suggests a design intended for minimal maintenance in harsh environments, protecting internal components from dust and water. The reverse polarity and short-circuit protection also contribute to its longevity and reduced need for troubleshooting due to electrical faults.
