Why my Cub Cadet 159 cc OHV Engine fails to start?
    • C
      Christopher SullivanJul 31, 2025
If your Cub Cadet Engine fails to start, several factors could be at play. First, make sure the blade control is engaged (lawn mower only). Check that the spark plug boot is securely connected. Ensure the fuel tank isn't empty and contains fresh gasoline. If equipped, verify the fuel shut-off valve is open and the engine is properly primed. Inspect the spark plug for faults, and replace the fuel filter if there's reduced fuel flow. If the engine is flooded, wait a few minutes before attempting to restart without priming. Also, if equipped with a choke, make sure to choke the engine. Finally, for electric start models, check and replace the fuse if it's burnt.

What to do if my Cub Cadet 159 cc OHV runs erratic?
    • T

If your Cub Cadet Engine runs erratically, start by checking the spark plug boot to ensure it's tightly connected. A blocked fuel filter can also cause this issue, so replace it as instructed in the Maintenance section. If your gas cap has a vent, make sure it's clear. Water or dirt in the fuel system could be another culprit; in this case, drain the fuel tank and refill it with fresh fuel. Finally, if your unit is running with the choke applied, push the choke knob in.
