The Cubby Bed is an enclosed canopy bed designed to provide a safe environment for individuals with cognitive conditions and special needs, preventing bed exit and injury. Its tensioned walls offer padding, and safety sheets are designed to guard against burrowing or entrapment.
Function Description:
The Cubby Bed serves as a secure sleeping space, offering a safe environment for users who may be prone to wandering or injury in a typical bed. It features a dual-layer mesh and fabric canopy, allowing for different levels of enclosure based on user needs. The bed can be fully enclosed with both mesh and fabric entrances zipped for a cocoon-like, distraction-free environment, or it can be set up with only the mesh enclosure, rolling up the solid fabric door. The bed also incorporates safety sheets that zip and lock to the interior sidewalls, preventing entrapment and burrowing. Access holes are provided in each corner for medical equipment such as alarms, feeding tubes, or breathing machines. An interior mesh pocket offers storage for personal items and is detachable if a completely clear environment is required. For models without a Technology Hub, a fabric hole cover can be zipped and secured to maintain user safety. The tensioned walls of the canopy create 360 degrees of padding, similar to a trampoline, to provide padded protection against injury.

Usage Features:
- Dual-Layer Canopy: Offers flexibility with full fabric enclosure or mesh-only enclosure. Fabric doors can be rolled up and secured with buttoned straps.
- Safety Sheets: Essential for use, these sheets zip and lock to the interior sidewalls to prevent entrapment and burrowing. They are specifically designed for the Cubby Bed and regular fitted sheets should not be used.
- Safety Pocket + Clasp: Each entrance has a safety pocket and S-clip clasp to hide and secure the interior zipper, preventing user access and ensuring safe sleep.
- Tension Padding: The canopy is stretched tight to provide 360 degrees of padded protection. Velcro at the bottom of the bed or slight frame expansion can be used to adjust tension.
- Access Holes: Four steel grommets in each corner for doctor-approved medical equipment.
- Door Straps: Used to hold up rolled entrances during caregiving or therapy. Removable straps should be removed from the bed when not in use for child safety.
- Interior Mesh Pocket: Detachable pocket for storing personal items.
- Fabric Hole Cover: Zips and secures into the bed if a Technology Hub is not installed, maintaining user safety.
- Zipper Security: Interior zippers are hidden with safety pockets when closed, and S-clip safety clasps secure the zipper to door loops to prevent access from inside.
Maintenance Features:
- Monthly Inspection: A monthly checklist is provided to inspect all components:
- All interior and exterior seams of the canopy are intact (no fraying, snags, tears).
- Interior and exterior canopy fabric (all 6 sides, including ceiling and under mattress) are free from fraying, rips, or tears. Straps under the mattress (if applicable) are not loose.
- Each zipper on the canopy is functional, and zipper seams are intact.
- Mesh fabric is free from tears or snags and is not stretched out.
- Metal snaps and port holes on the canopy are undamaged and free from frays/tears.
- Cubby frame is not loose or wobbly (perform a shake test and listen for rattling), and all four legs are positioned flatly on the floor.
- Safety sheet fabric, cord loop, and zippers have no tears, rips, or snags, and the lock is secured.
- Cleaning:
- Frame, Canopy + Sheets: Can be wiped clean using household soap, mild cleaning solution or detergent, warm water, and a damp cloth. Rinse clean with water to remove residue. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.
- Electronic Components: Do not immerse in water; wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- Canopy (Machine Wash): Spot clean first. For larger accidents, close all zippers, machine wash in cold water on the delicate cycle with mild detergent and 303 guard for stain repellency. Hang to dry; do not machine dry or wash in warm water as it may shrink and void the warranty. Do not steam. Iron on synthetic setting only.
- Canopy (Spot Cleaning): Blot liquid with a clean, dry cloth. Apply a light mist of mild soap and water. Work solution into the stain by lightly agitating the entire surface area of the fabric with a sponge or soft bristle brush (avoid scrubbing or hard-bristled brushes). Rinse the entire fabric to remove all soap. Blot excess moisture with a clean, soft towel. Blot or wet-vacuum excess water from the entire area. Repeat rinsing and blotting until all soap residue is removed. Air dry only.
- Safety Sheet: Hand wash in cold water or use cold water and mild detergent for delicate machine wash if needed. Do not dry clean or iron. Hang to dry.
- Damage/Missing Parts: Discontinue use immediately and contact Cubby for repair or replacement if any damage is present or parts are missing. Do not substitute parts.
- Canopy Tension: If the canopy loosens over time, pull the bottom of the bed skirt around the bed frame and secure with the adhesive-backed Velcro. Bed frame poles can be turned to better position the Velcro.
