Overview

The Cuisinart Searin' Sphere Portable Gas Grill, Model CGG-049, is a compact outdoor grilling appliance designed for convenience and portability. It operates on liquid propane (LP) gas and is intended for outdoor use only, making it suitable for various settings like patios, decks, or camping trips.

Function Description:

This portable gas grill serves as an outdoor cooking appliance, primarily for grilling food. It utilizes a single burner fueled by a 14.1 oz. or 16.4 oz. LP gas cylinder (not included) or a standard 20 lb. LP tank with an optional conversion hose (Cuisinart QG-012B or equivalent). The grill features a push-button starter for easy ignition and a control knob to adjust the flame intensity, allowing for precise temperature control during cooking. The design includes a lid that helps retain heat and can be used to create an oven-like environment for various cooking styles.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: CGG-049
  • Fuel Type: Liquid Propane (LP) gas only. Not compatible with natural gas.
  • Cylinder Compatibility: 14.1 oz. or 16.4 oz. LP gas cylinders, or 20 lb. LP tanks with a conversion hose (CGA No.600 cylinder connection device).
  • Regulator: Pressure regulator supplied with the grill must be used.
  • Clearance: Minimum 24 inches (61cm) from combustible or non-combustible materials from the back and sides.
  • Ignition: Push-button starter assembly with electrode.
  • Construction: Features a firebox, burner, cooking grates, and a lid with a handle and stopper.
  • Assembly: Requires assembly of legs, handle, burner, and regulator.

Usage Features:

  • Portability: Designed to be portable, though specific dimensions and weight are not provided, its "portable" designation suggests ease of transport. The leg assembly allows for a stable setup on various surfaces.
  • Easy Ignition: The push-button starter simplifies the lighting process, eliminating the need for external lighters in most cases.
  • Temperature Control: A single control knob allows users to adjust the gas flow to the burner, providing control over cooking temperature.
  • Safety Features: Includes warnings against unattended operation, use in enclosed spaces, and proximity to flammable liquids or other gas cylinders. A leak check procedure is detailed to ensure safe operation.
  • Match Lighting Option: In case the electronic ignition fails, a match lighting hole is provided for manual ignition.
  • Pre-heating: Recommended to operate the grill for about 15 minutes with the lid closed on "HIGH" before first use to "heat clean" internal parts and dissipate odors from the painted finish.
  • Flame Inspection: Users can inspect the burner flame through match lighting holes; a good flame should be blue with some yellow tips.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: The manual emphasizes regular care to keep the grill operating properly. All maintenance should be performed when the grill is cool and the fuel supply is turned off.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Exterior surfaces can be cleaned with warm soapy water. The drip tray should also be washed with warm soapy water and is not dishwasher safe.
  • Interior Cleaning: Cooking grates can be cleaned with a grill brush when warm (not hot). They are also dishwasher safe when cool.
  • Debris Removal: Accumulated debris from the bottom of the firebox can be scraped out, taking care not to touch the burner element, igniter, or igniter wire.
  • Venturi Tube Cleaning: Regular inspection and cleaning of the Venturi Tube screen cover are recommended to prevent blockages from spiders or wasps, which could impair gas flow and cause a fire.
  • No Water in Interior: Explicitly warns against using water or liquids to clean the grill interior.
  • Hardware Inspection: Periodically inspect and tighten any loose hardware.
  • Warranty: Covered by a 3-year warranty for defects in parts and workmanship from the original purchase date. Damage claims regarding enameling must be submitted within 30 days of purchase. The warranty does not cover damage from improper assembly, disregard of the manual, use of non-manufacturer parts, modifications, inappropriate use, abuse, or improper maintenance/repairs by unauthorized persons.

Safety Warnings:

The manual includes extensive safety warnings, including:

  • Outdoor Use Only: Strictly for outdoor use; never in buildings, garages, or enclosed areas.
  • Unattended Operation: Never operate unattended.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the grill at all times.
  • Fuel Type: Use only propane gas; natural gas is dangerous and voids warranty.
  • Flammable Materials: Keep away from combustible materials and flammable liquids.
  • Gas Leaks: Do not operate if a gas leak is present. A detailed leak check procedure using soapy water is provided.
  • Hot Surfaces: The grill becomes hot during and after use; insulated oven mitts/gloves are required.
  • No Charcoal/Lighter Fluid: Do not use charcoal, lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene, or alcohol.
  • No Alterations: Do not alter the grill in any manner.
  • Proposition 65 Warning: Notes that combustion by-products and brass materials (containing lead) may expose users to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm in California. Users are advised to wash hands after handling.
