Overview

This document is a user and care manual for the DAEWOO DWB-052C Window Type Room Air Conditioner. It provides essential information for proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the device.

Function Description:

The DAEWOO DWB-052C is a window-type room air conditioner designed to cool indoor spaces. It features fan and cooling controls, a temperature thermostat, and adjustable airflow direction. The unit is intended to provide a comfortable indoor environment within specified temperature ranges.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: DWB-052C
  • Power Source: AC 220-240V ~ 50Hz, SINGLE PHASE
  • Dimensions: 440(W) x 313(H) x 385(D) mm
  • Weight (NET): 21Kg - Approx.
  • Operating Temperature Range:
    • Outdoor: 20°C (min) - 43°C (max)
    • Indoor: 20°C (min) - 32°C (max)

Usage Features:

General Operation:

  • Starting/Stopping: The unit should be operated using the Selector Switch. The Main Power Switch or Auxiliary Power Switch should not be used for routine on/off operations.
  • Restart Delay: After turning off or in case of power failure, wait at least 3 minutes before restarting the unit to prevent damage.
  • Frequent Operation: Avoid running or stopping the unit more than 4-5 times an hour, as this can cause damage.

Fan & Cooling Control:

The Fan Control Selector Switch has five positions:

  • OFF: Stops all operations.
  • HIGH FAN: Maximum air circulation without cooling.
  • LOW FAN: Quiet air circulation without cooling.
  • HIGH COOL: Cooling operation with HIGH FAN.
  • LOW COOL: Cooling operation with LOW FAN.
  • Caution: If the unit has been cooling and is then turned "OFF" or set to "FAN," wait at least 3 minutes before resetting to a cooling operation.

Temperature Control:

  • A knob thermostat allows users to set a comfortable temperature.
  • Turning the knob clockwise results in a cooler room temperature.
  • Turning the knob counter-clockwise results in a warmer room temperature.
  • The thermostat automatically starts and stops cooling to maintain the set room temperature, promoting efficient and economical cooling.
  • Setting the control to the coldest extreme does not cool the room faster; a midpoint setting is generally a good starting point.

Airflow Direction:

  • Airflow deflectors can be adjusted to divert air from the center to the left or right, allowing users to customize the air distribution pattern.

Economical Use:

  • Properly control room temperature.
  • Avoid exposing the unit to direct sunlight.
  • Do not leave doors and windows open during operation.

Safety Precautions:

  • Do not stick anything into the air outlet or inlet to prevent injury or damage.
  • Avoid direct, continuous exposure to cool airflow for extended periods, as it is not good for health.
  • Do not pour water on the unit for cleaning.
  • Never use solvents or harsh chemicals for cleaning.
  • Avoid placing obstacles near the inlet or outlet, as this can block airflow and damage the unit.
  • Never store gasoline or other flammable liquids near the air conditioner.
  • Do not force the controls on the front panel.
  • Do not remove the plug by pulling the power cord, as this can damage the cord and cause a shock hazard.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

Electrical Requirements:

  • Grounding: The appliance is equipped with a three-prong (grounding) plug for protection against electrical shock. If a two-prong wall receptacle is encountered, a qualified electrician must replace it with a properly grounded three-prong receptacle.
  • Warning: Do not cut or remove the round grounding prong from the plug. Do not use a two-prong adapter.
  • Extension Cords: The use of extension cords is strongly discouraged due to potential safety hazards. If an extension cord must be used, it must be earthed and rated at 250V 10A (Min.). The socket-outlet should be near the equipment and easily accessible.
  • Warning: Do not use an extension cord or pinch the power cord. Do not remove the warning tag from the power cord.
  • Supply Cord Replacement: If the supply flexible cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, service agent, or similarly qualified person to avoid hazards.
  • Installation: The appliance must be installed in accordance with national wiring regulations.

Maintenance Features:

Air Filter:

  • Cleaning Frequency: The air filter should be cleaned at least once every two weeks during operation.
  • Procedure:
    1. Remove the Air Filter from the front grill by pulling up.
    2. Clean the Air Filter with a vacuum cleaner or lukewarm, soapy water.
    3. Shake it when clean to completely remove moisture.
    4. Reinstall the filter.
  • Note: A dirty air filter reduces airflow and cooling capacity. Do not operate the unit without the air filter.

Cleaning the Air Conditioner:

  • General Cleaning: At least once a year, the cabinet should be removed, and the air conditioner thoroughly cleaned. An authorized service person should inspect the unit to ensure proper functioning.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: Wash the air conditioner with lukewarm, soapy water as needed, then rinse and dry thoroughly. If using concentrated liquid detergent, dilute it in warm water first. The front grill can be wiped with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution. The cabinet can be polished with liquid wax for appliances.
  • Coil Cleaning: Condenser and Evaporator coils should be cleaned at the beginning of each cooling season using a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. Ensure the coils are not damaged during cleaning.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, as they can scratch, crack, and discolor surfaces.
  • Note: To maintain peak efficiency, condenser coils (on the weather side of the unit) should be periodically checked and cleaned if clogged with soot or dirt.

Troubleshooting (Before Calling for Service):

The manual provides a table of common difficulties, possible causes, and suggested solutions:

  • Air conditioner does not operate:
    • Possible Cause: No power to unit.
    • Suggested Solution: Set Fan Control Selector to a position other than "OFF," confirm power cord is plugged in, verify main power switch (circuit breaker) or fuse is good.
  • Little or no cooling:
    • Possible Cause: Compressor lockout on initial plug-in, dirty air filter, blocked front.
    • Suggested Solution: Wait 3-4 minutes and restart, clean air filter, remove obstructions (curtains, blinds, furniture).
    • Possible Cause: Thermostat not adjusted correctly, air conditioner undersized.
    • Suggested Solution: Adjust thermostat, check with dealer for proper unit capacity.
  • Noisy unit:
    • Possible Cause: Loose parts, weak building construction, water hitting fan.
    • Suggested Solution: Tighten loose parts, provide additional support, normal in high humidity, stop noise by allowing water to drain from base pan through drain hole.
  • Odors from unit:
    • Possible Cause: Mold, mildew, or algae formation on wet surfaces.
    • Suggested Solution: Place algaecide tablet in base pan, remove water from base pan through drain hole.
  • Water in base pan:
    • Possible Cause: Normal operation in humid areas.
    • Suggested Solution: Water in base pan is picked up by the fan blade and thrown onto the warm outdoor coil where it evaporates.

Installation Instructions:

  • Window Installation:
    1. Determine Window Location: Choose a suitable window with enough strength to bear the unit's weight.
    2. Measure Unit's Dimensions: Take measurements of the unit.
    3. Install Mounting Angle: Install the mounting angle or other hardware as shown in Fig. 1. The rear side of the unit should be inclined about 5mm lower for proper drainage.
    4. Insert Unit in Window: With two people, lift and insert the unit into the window opening.
    5. Finish Opening: Close the gap between the unit and window using sponge or tape for insulation.
  • Caution: Two people must work together to avoid personal injury during installation.
  • Through-Wall Installation: If through-wall installation is required, consult an independent servicing dealer.
