Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a DAEWOO Washing Machine, specifically models like DWD-MH1011. It provides comprehensive information on the device's function, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The DAEWOO Washing Machine is a completely automatic drum washer designed to clean various types of laundry. It operates by filling with water, agitating clothes with detergent, rinsing, and spinning to remove excess water. The machine offers a range of wash programs tailored for different fabric types and soiling levels, ensuring efficient and effective cleaning while conforming to current safety requirements. Its primary function is to automate the laundry process, providing convenience and care for garments.

Usage Features

The washing machine offers a user-friendly interface with a control panel featuring a knob, temperature selection button, start/pause button, and power button.

Program Selection: Users can select a desired wash program by turning the knob clockwise or anticlockwise. Available programs include:

  • Synthetic: For synthetic or mixed fabrics, underwear, coloured garments, non-shrink shirts.
  • Wool: For machine-washable or hand-washable wool or wool blend fabrics. It's recommended to use the cold setting if no temperature is specified on the care label and to reduce spin speed.
  • Delicate: For delicate garments made of synthetic fibres, mixed fibres, rayon, and easy-care cottons. Also suitable for machine-washable silks.
  • Sterilization: A program designed for high-temperature washing (90°C) to sterilize laundry.
  • Cotton: For cottons, linens, or cotton mix fabrics such as table linen, towelling, underwear, and T-shirts.
  • Standard Cotton: An efficient program for normally soiled cotton laundry at 60°C and 40°C, optimizing energy and water consumption.
  • Quick Wash: For small loads requiring freshening up, suitable for items that can be washed in a Cotton program.
  • Spin: A separate program for spinning cotton and linen items to remove excess water.

Temperature Selection: The "Temp." button allows users to select the desired wash temperature. If all temperature lights are off, the wash temperature is "Cold."

Starting and Pausing: The "Start/Pause" button initiates or pauses the wash cycle. The LED indicator for "Start/Pause" flickers in standby or pause mode and remains lit when the machine is running.

Power Control: The "Power" button switches the machine on or off. It is important to switch off the machine at the end of a wash cycle. The machine will enter standby mode and power off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity once a cycle is finished.

Laundry Preparation: Before loading, users should sort laundry by colour and care label, empty pockets of foreign objects (nails, coins, paper clips), close zips, fasten hooks and eyes, and pre-treat badly soiled areas or stains. Dark textiles should be washed separately multiple times initially to prevent dye transfer. Clothes that pill easily or have a woolen surface should be turned inside out.

Loading Clothes: Laundry should be unfolded and loaded loosely into the drum. Mixing large and small items helps distribute the load evenly, improving wash results and spinning efficiency. While a full load is recommended for energy and water efficiency, overloading should be avoided to prevent creases and maintain cleaning efficiency.

Detergent Dispensing: The detergent drawer has compartments for main wash detergent, fabric softener, and pre-wash detergent. Users should add adequate amounts of detergent and fabric softener, ensuring not to exceed the maximum level mark. The amount of detergent depends on laundry quantity, soiling level (lightly soiled, normally soiled, heavily soiled), and water hardness. Low foaming powder is recommended for all washing temperature programs.

Door Lock Mechanism: For safety, the door locks when the machine starts, when the drum temperature is above 53°C, or when the water level is above a certain point. The door unlocks two minutes after the washing cycle is finished or two minutes after pressing the "Power" button to switch off the machine. Users are warned not to attempt opening the door during a cycle or power cut due to potential high temperatures and risk of scalding.

Balance Control Device: The machine is equipped with a balance control device to ensure stability during spinning. If laundry is not evenly distributed, the machine will cut in, redistribute the load by reverse rotation, and attempt to resume spinning. If the unbalance persists after 15 minutes, the machine will not spin, requiring manual redistribution and reselection of the spin program.

Installation Requirements: The machine should be installed on a concrete floor for stability, at least 10 cm away from walls. It must be level and securely positioned to prevent vibrations. Transit bolts at the rear of the machine must be removed before first use to prevent damage. The drain hose should be securely connected to a sink or standpipe, ensuring a loop to prevent waste water entry and an air break in the standpipe. The inlet hose connects to a 3/4" tap, and only the supplied hoses should be used.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the washing machine's longevity and performance.

Cleaning the Exterior: The exterior should be cleaned with a mild non-abrasive cleaning agent or soap and water using a well-wrung cloth, then wiped dry with a soft cloth. Solvents, abrasive cleaners, glass cleaners, or all-purpose cleaning agents should not be used as they can damage plastic surfaces and components.

Cleaning the Drum: The drum should be cleaned every 3 months using the "Sterilization" program.

Cleaning the Detergent Drawer: Detergent residues should be removed regularly. To clean the drawer:

  1. Pull out the drawer until resistance is felt.
  2. Press down the release catch and pull the drawer completely out.
  3. Remove and clean the siphon from its compartment.
  4. Clean the dispenser using a brush and warm water.

Cleaning the Water Inlet Filter: The plastic filter in the water inlet should be withdrawn using pointed nose pliers, cleaned, and then securely put back in place. This filter should be checked every 6 months or more frequently if there are frequent interruptions to the water supply.

Cleaning the Drain Pump Filter: The drain pump filter should be cleaned every 2 months or when the "Rinse" and "Spin" LEDs flicker, indicating a fault. To clean it:

  1. Disconnect the machine from the mains electricity supply.
  2. Open the lower cover with a screwdriver.
  3. Place a container under the pump.
  4. Unscrew and remove the filter.
  5. Clean the filter carefully.

Winterization Precautions (for temperatures below 0°C): If the machine is exposed to freezing temperatures:

  1. Turn off the water tap.
  2. Unscrew the inlet hose.
  3. Unhook the drain hose from the rear support and position its end, along with the inlet hose, into a bowl.
  4. Run the spin program to drain residual water.
  5. Disconnect the appliance.
  6. Screw the inlet hose back and reposition the drain hose.
  7. Ensure the room temperature is above 0°C before restarting the machine.

Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues, including:

  • Machine fills overtime: Possible causes include a closed water tap, put-down drain hose, or damaged water inlet valve. Solutions involve opening the tap, hooking up the hose, or changing the valve.
  • Door lock alarm: Caused by a poorly locked door, garment caught in the door seal, or damaged door lock. Solutions include locking the door well, putting the garment into the drum, or changing the door lock.
  • Machine drains overtime: Due to a squashed/kinked drain hose, blocked drain pump filter, or blocked drainage system pipes. Solutions involve checking the drain hose, cleaning the filter, or cleaning the drainage system.
  • Water overflows/Water sensor abnormal: Caused by a damaged water inlet valve, insecure connection between the water sensor and wire, or a damaged water sensor. Solutions include changing the water inlet, checking/securing the connection, or changing the water sensor.
  • Motor not working: Possible causes are an insecure connection between the motor and wire, motor protection due to overheat, or a damaged motor. Solutions include checking/securing the connection, checking for overload and retrying after the motor cools, or changing the motor.
  • Heating tube fault: Due to an insecure connection between the heating tube and wire, or a damaged heating tube. Solutions involve checking/securing the connection or changing the heating tube.
  • Temperature sensor fault: Caused by an insecure connection between the temperature sensor and wire, or a damaged temperature sensor. Solutions include checking/securing the connection or changing the temperature sensor.
