This document provides comprehensive instructions for the Daewoo Microwave Convection/Grill Oven models KOC-873T and KOC-873TSL, covering installation, operation, safety, and maintenance.
Function Description
The Daewoo KOC-873T / KOC-873TSL is a versatile kitchen appliance designed for microwave, convection, and grill cooking, as well as combination modes. It features a DUAL Heating System to ensure efficient and even cooking.
The oven offers multiple cooking functions:
- Microwave Cooking: Utilizes microwave energy to heat and cook food quickly. It has 10 power levels, from P-HI (100%) down to P-10 (10%), allowing for precise control over cooking intensity.
- Grill Cooking: Employs a heating element located at the top of the oven to brown and crisp food. This function is ideal for grilling meats, vegetables, and achieving a desirable texture.
- Convection Cooking: Uses a fan to circulate hot air throughout the oven cavity, providing even heat distribution similar to a traditional oven. This mode is suitable for baking, roasting, and achieving consistent results. The temperature can be set from 100°C to 210°C.
- Combi Cooking: Combines microwave energy with either grill or convection heat to speed up cooking while still achieving browning and crisping. This mode offers different power levels (C-0, C-Hi, C-Lo) which correspond to varying percentages of microwave output combined with the top heater. The oven can operate in simultaneous or sequential combi modes.
- Defrost Functions: Includes both "Time Defrost" and "Weight Defrost" modes. Time Defrost allows users to set a specific defrosting duration, while Weight Defrost automatically calculates the defrosting time based on the food's weight (from 0.1kg to 2.9kg).
- Auto Cook: Features five pre-programmed menus (Roast beef, Roast pork, Roast chicken, Fish fillet, Vegetable) that simplify cooking by automatically setting the time and power for specific food types and weights.
- Speedy Cook: Allows for quick cooking time increments of 30 seconds, up to a maximum of 5 minutes, for rapid heating.
- Time Plus: Enables users to increase cooking time during operation by 1 minute or 10 seconds, providing flexibility to adjust cooking as needed.
Usage Features
The oven is controlled via a user-friendly control panel with various buttons and a dial knob.
- Display: Shows cooking time, temperature, power levels, and operational modes. It also indicates when the oven is in specific modes like "Combi," "Grill," "Microwave," "Auto Cook," "Pie," "Weight Defrost," "Time Defrost," or "Convection."
- Dial Knob: Used to input cooking time, weight, or quantity, offering precise adjustments.
- Function Button: A central button used to select the desired oven operation (Grill, Combi, Pie, Temp, Auto Cook, MW, Defrost).
- Temp Button: Sets the desired temperature for convection or combi cooking. Holding it down for more than 1.3 seconds scrolls the numbers automatically.
- Clock Button: Sets the time of day, operating on a 24-hour or 12-hour format.
- +1min / +10sec Buttons: Increase cooking time by 1 minute or 10 seconds, respectively, during operation.
- STOP/CLEAR Button: Used to pause cooking, clear all manually entered information, or cancel the child lock.
- START/SPEEDY COOK Button: Initiates the selected cooking cycle or quickly programs cooking time in 30-second increments.
- Child Lock: A safety feature activated by pressing the STOP button for 3 seconds, preventing accidental operation by children. "LOC" appears on the display when activated.
Accessories:
The oven comes with several accessories designed to enhance cooking versatility:
- Rotating Base: A crucial component that fits into the center of the oven cavity, ensuring the turntable rotates correctly. It must be properly installed for all cooking.
- Turntable Tray (or Turntable): A metal tray that sits on the rotating base and rotates clockwise or counterclockwise during cooking, ensuring even heating. It is removable for cleaning.
- Metal Rack: Used with the turntable tray, particularly for grill cooking, to elevate food closer to the heating element for better browning.
General Guidelines for Cooking:
- Food Placement: For even cooking, arrange multiple items in a ring pattern. Place thinner or smaller areas of food towards the center of the dish.
- Stirring and Turning: Stir and turn food during cooking to distribute heat evenly and prevent overcooking at the edges.
- Covering Food: Use microwave-safe covers to reduce spattering, shorten cooking times, and retain moisture.
- Piercing Food: Pierce foods with skins or membranes (e.g., potatoes, tomatoes, eggs) to release steam and prevent bursting.
- Standing Time: Allow food to stand for a short period after cooking to allow heat to distribute evenly and complete the cooking process.
- Container Selection: Use microwave-safe materials like glass, ceramic, or heat-resistant plastic. Avoid metal pans or dishes with metal trims in microwave-only modes, as they reflect microwave energy and can cause arcing.
Maintenance Features
Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the oven's performance and longevity.
- Inside the Oven: The interior walls and floor are stainless steel. Wipe spills and spatters with a damp cloth or sponge using a mild detergent after each use. For stubborn soil, a mild non-abrasive cleaner can be used. The waveguide cover should be kept clean at all times.
- Floor (Grill Element Area): Be careful not to spill water or detergent into the holes over the grill element. Use a soft, clean, and dry cloth for cleaning this area.
- Top Surface (Quartz Grill Elements): The quartz grill elements are fragile; avoid pressing or gripping them hard. Do not remove them for cleaning.
- Door: Wipe spatters or food soils from the door with a damp, sudsy cloth or sponge while it is still warm. Rinse and dry with a cloth. Condensation is normal and should be wiped away.
- Exterior and Control Panel: Clean with a slightly dampened cloth using only water. Avoid abrasive cleansers or harsh chemicals, which can damage surfaces.
- Turntable and Rotating Base: These parts are easily removable and dishwasher-proof. Clean them frequently, especially if food spills accumulate, to ensure efficient operation. Always reinstall them properly before use.
Safety Precautions:
- Never operate the oven with the door open or if the door seals are damaged.
- Do not heat sealed containers or whole hard-boiled eggs, as they may explode.
- Ensure adequate ventilation by not blocking the oven's air vents.
- Supervise children when they use the oven.
- If arcing (sparks) occurs, press STOP/CLEAR and identify the cause (e.g., metal touching oven sides, foil not molded to food).
- The oven must be properly earthed.
- Do not use the oven for drying clothes, paper, or non-food items.
- Never operate the oven empty.
- Do not use recycled paper products for cooking.
- Do not heat oil or fat for deep frying.
- Be aware that liquids can overheat without visible boiling; stir liquids before and after heating, and allow them to stand.
