Overview

This document is an operation manual for DAIKIN Room Air Conditioners, specifically covering models FTKM25XVMG, FTKM35XVMG, FTKM50XVMG, FTKM60XVMG, and FTKM71XVMG. The air conditioners are equipped with INVERTER technology for enhanced comfort and energy savings.

Function Description

The DAIKIN Room Air Conditioner provides various operation modes including COOL, DRY, and FAN, allowing users to select the most suitable mode for their comfort. It features an INTELLIGENT EYE sensor that detects human movement. If no one is detected in the room for more than 20 minutes, the operation automatically switches to an energy-saving mode. This sensor has a vertical detection angle of 90° and a horizontal angle of 110°, with a detection range of up to 7 meters. The energy-saving mode adjusts the temperature by +2°C in COOL/DRY operation (or +1°C if room temperature exceeds 30°C) and slightly decreases the airflow rate in FAN operation.

A WEEKLY TIMER allows users to save up to four timer settings for each day of the week, adapting to various lifestyles. This feature enables setting on/off times and desired temperatures. The timer can be set for 24 hours or with an hours-remaining display (COUNT UP-DOWN).

The POWERFUL operation quickly maximizes the cooling effect in any operation mode, running for 20 minutes before returning to previous settings.

COMFORT AIRFLOW directs airflow upward during COOL and DRY operations, preventing cold air from blowing directly on occupants. This function is not available in FAN operation and sets the airflow rate to AUTO.

ECONO operation limits maximum power consumption, useful when other electrical devices are used simultaneously on a shared circuit. This may result in a slightly reduced cooling effect.

OUTDOOR UNIT QUIET operation lowers the outdoor unit's noise level by adjusting frequency and fan speed, ideal for maintaining a quiet neighborhood, especially during night-time operation. This may also result in a slightly reduced cooling effect.

The air conditioner also supports Wireless LAN Connection via an adapter (BRP072C42), allowing control through the DAIKIN Mobile Controller application on smartphones or tablets (Android 2.3.3+ or iOS 5.0+). The application can also disable the RUN lamp LED on the adapter if it is found disturbing.

Important Technical Specifications

The Wireless LAN connecting adapter (BRP072C42) operates on a frequency range of 2400 MHz-2483.5 MHz, using IEEE 802.11b/g/n radio protocol with RF channels 1-13. It requires a DC 14 V/100 mA power supply.

The remote controller (ARC466A29) uses two AAA.LR03 alkaline batteries, with a standard replacement time of one year. Its maximum transmission distance is approximately 7 meters.

Operating conditions for COOL/DRY mode are:

  • Outdoor temperature: 19.4°C to 46.0°C
  • Indoor temperature: 18.0°C to 32.0°C
  • Indoor humidity: 80% max.

The appliance is filled with R32 refrigerant. The maximum refrigerant charge for these models is below 1.84kg, meaning there is no limitation for the minimum floor area. An installation height of 2.5m or more from the floor surface to the bottom of the appliance is recommended.

Usage Features

Basic Operation:

  • Mode Selection: Users can choose between DRY, COOL, and FAN modes using the MODE selector button on the remote controller.
  • Temperature Adjustment: The TEMPERATURE adjustment buttons allow changing the temperature setting in 0.5°C increments. For COOL operation, the range is 18.0-32.0°C. Temperature setting is not changeable in DRY or FAN modes.
  • Airflow Rate Adjustment: The FAN setting button allows selection of airflow rates from AUTO, Indoor unit quiet, and levels 1-5 (Low to High). Quiet operation sets the airflow to a weak level.
  • Airflow Direction Adjustment: The SWING button adjusts the horizontal airflow direction (flaps) and vertical airflow direction (louvres). A 3-D airflow direction combines both, moving flaps and louvres in turn. Users can also set the flaps or louvres at a desired fixed position during auto swing.

Useful Functions:

  • INTELLIGENT EYE: Activated via the SENSOR button, it detects human movement to optimize energy consumption.
  • COMFORT AIRFLOW: Activated via the COMFORT button, it directs airflow upwards in COOL and DRY modes.
  • POWERFUL Operation: Activated via the POWERFUL button, it quickly maximizes cooling.
  • ECONO / OUTDOOR UNIT QUIET: Activated via the ECONO/QUIET button, it allows selection of either ECONO or OUTDOOR UNIT QUIET modes for energy saving or reduced noise.

TIMER Operation:

  • ON/OFF TIMER: Allows setting specific on/off times for the air conditioner. The NIGHT SET mode automatically adjusts temperature (0.5°C up in COOL) during sleeping hours when the OFF TIMER is set.
  • WEEKLY TIMER: Allows setting up to four daily timer programs for each day of the week, including operation mode and set temperature. A copy mode simplifies programming by allowing settings from one day to be copied to others.

Mobile Controller:

  • The DAIKIN Mobile Controller app allows remote control of the air conditioner via a Wireless LAN connection. Setup involves connecting the Wireless LAN adapter to a router (preferably with WPS button) and then to the mobile app.

Maintenance Features

Care and Cleaning:

  • Front Panel: Wipe with a soft damp cloth, using neutral detergent if dirty.
  • Air Filter: Vacuum dust or wash the filter every two weeks.
  • Indoor Unit and Remote Controller: Wipe with a soft cloth.
  • Air Quality Filter (enzyme blue with PM 2.5): No cleaning required, replace every six months.
  • Deodorizing Filter (enzyme blue) / Titanium Apatite Deodorizing Filter: Vacuum dust or wash with lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes if very dirty. It can be renewed by washing every six months and is recommended for replacement every three years.
  • Dust Collection Filter (PM 2.5): No cleaning required, replace every six months.

Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Open the front panel.
  2. Pull out the air filters.
  3. Wash air filters with water or clean with a vacuum cleaner. If very dirty, use neutral detergent and lukewarm water, then dry in the shade.
  4. Reattach the filters.
  5. Close the front panel slowly, ensuring it is securely fixed.

Prior to a long period of non-use:

  1. Operate the FAN mode for several hours on a fine day to dry out the inside of the unit.
  2. Turn off the circuit breaker for the room air conditioner.
  3. Clean and reattach the air filters.
  4. Remove batteries from the remote controller to prevent leakage.

Periodical Maintenance:

  • Regular maintenance by a specialist is recommended in addition to user cleaning, especially if the unit becomes foul after several seasons of use, leading to poor performance.

Troubleshooting:

  • The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the unit not operating, stopping suddenly, not stopping, not cooling, or emitting mist or odors.
  • It also includes a fault diagnosis procedure using the remote controller to check error codes, which can be communicated to service personnel.
  • Specific troubleshooting for the Wireless LAN connecting adapter is provided, covering issues like LEDs not lighting or the adapter not being visible in the app.
  • Warnings are given for abnormal conditions (e.g., burning smell, abnormal sounds, water leaks), advising users to stop operation, turn off the circuit breaker, and contact their dealer immediately.
