Usage Features

The system is designed for ease of use and safety. The digital controller for the on-board pump (Dixell control panel) allows users to display and change the target setpoint for the water temperature used to run the on-board pump for space heating. The factory default setpoint is 37°C, but it can be adjusted based on specific requirements. The controller also provides indicators for compressor status, anti-short cycle delay, defrost in progress, and measurement units. For domestic hot water setpoint, the Dixell control panel should NOT be used.

The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:

  • Electrical Safety: All wiring must be performed by an authorised electrician, comply with applicable legislation, and use multicore cables for power supply. Power supply must be protected with a main switch, slow blow fuse, and earth leakage protector.
  • Water Quality: Water quality must comply with EU Directive 98/93 EC. Plastic pipes must be oxygen diffusion tight to prevent corrosion.
  • Installation Site: Requires sufficient space for servicing and air circulation, stable base, good ventilation, and must be levelled. Avoid installation in potentially explosive atmospheres, areas with strong electromagnetic waves, or where flammable/corrosive gases are present.
  • Filling the Tank: The domestic hot water tank must be completely filled before operating the system to prevent damage to the immersion heater and electrical errors.
  • Hydraulic Separation/Volumiser: The pre-plumbed cylinder is supplied as a hydraulic separator by default, but can be configured as a volumiser. An on-board water circulation pump is included. If no water circulation is possible on the secondary side, an automatic bypass valve should be fitted.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and efficient operation of the domestic hot water tank. The manual recommends annual maintenance, or more frequently if required by applicable legislation, to be performed by an authorised installer or service agent. Key maintenance tasks include:

  • Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve: Check for correct operation by manually operating the valve to ensure free water flow through the discharge pipe.
  • Inlet Control Group: Inspect the integral line strainer, pressure reducing valve cartridge, and seating. Cleaning the strainer element and cartridge under clean running water is recommended. Replace components if damaged. The pressure reducing valve can be calibrated if replaced.
  • Descaling: Depending on water quality and set temperature, scale can deposit on the heat exchanger. Descaling may be required at certain intervals.
  • Chemical Disinfection: If required by legislation, chemical disinfection should be performed using a non-chloride based disinfection product approved for human consumption, ensuring water quality compliance with EU directive 98/83 EC.
  • Switch Box: Conduct a thorough visual inspection for loose connections or defective wiring and check the operation of the contactor K3M.
  • Pressure Relief Valve Hose: Check condition and routing to ensure proper drainage.
  • Booster Heater: To extend its lifespan, especially in hard water regions, it is recommended to drain the tank, remove the booster heater, and immerse it in a lime-removing product for 24 hours.
  • Draining the Cylinder: Instructions are provided for safely draining the cylinder, including isolating the immersion heater, connecting a hose to the drain connection, and opening a hot tap to prevent vacuum.

The manual also includes a "Service Record Log Book" for installers to document maintenance activities, serving as a commissioning certificate and evidence of compliance with Building Regulations. Failure to complete this logbook may invalidate the cylinder's warranty.
