This document is an owner's manual for a Danby wine cooler, model DWC114KD1BSS. It provides essential information for safe operation, installation, usage, and maintenance of the appliance.
Function Description
The Danby DWC114KD1BSS is a wine cooler designed to store wine bottles at optimal temperatures. It features two separate temperature-controlled chambers: an upper chamber and a lower chamber. The appliance uses a compressor for cooling and includes an automatic defrost function, eliminating the need for manual defrosting. Defrost water is channeled to a drip tray above the compressor, where heat transfer causes it to evaporate. The wine cooler is intended for household use and similar applications, such as staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, bed and breakfast environments, and catering. It is designed for free-standing installation and should not be built into a cabinet or counter.
Usage Features
Capacity and Stocking: The wine cooler has a maximum capacity of 38, 750 ml Bordeaux wine bottles. The upper chamber can hold 14 bottles, and the lower chamber can hold 24 bottles. For maximum storage, bottles should be stored head-to-tail. The lower half shelves can be stocked as shown in the manual's illustrations.
Control Panel: The control panel includes a power indicator light, a power button, an upper display, a lower display, an upper chamber button, a lower chamber button, and a light button.
- Power Button: Press to turn the appliance on; press and hold for 3 seconds to turn it off.
- Temperature Adjustment: The upper chamber temperature can be set between 5°C and 10°C (default 6°C), and the lower chamber between 10°C and 18°C (default 12°C). The upper and lower chamber buttons are used to adjust these settings in 1° increments. Pressing and holding these buttons for 3 seconds displays the actual cabinet temperature for 5 seconds before returning to the set temperature display.
- Temperature Memory: In case of a power loss, the control panel remembers the set temperature and automatically resumes normal functioning once power is restored.
- Interior Light: The interior light defaults to turning on and off with the door. To set it for continuous illumination, press and hold the light button for 5 seconds until "LP" is displayed. The light will remain on until manually turned off. To revert to normal function, press and hold the light button for 5 seconds until "LF" is displayed.
Alarms and Indicators:
- Temperature Alarm: If the inner cabinet temperature exceeds 23°C for one hour, "HI" will show on the display, and an alarm will sound. If the temperature drops below 0°C, "LO" will show, and an alarm will sound.
- Door Ajar Alarm: If the door remains open for 5 minutes, an alarm will sound. Closing the door silences the alarm. If the alarm persists after closing the door, check that the actuator at the bottom of the door is making contact with the switch.
- Demo Mode: A demo mode is available to showcase the appliance without running the compressor. The fan will operate at low speed, but all alarms and beeping will be disabled. To engage or disengage, press and hold the up and down buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds; the display will flash "de" and "On" or "Of" five times, respectively.
Shelves: The appliance features stainless steel trim wooden shelves. To remove a shelf, tilt it as shown in the manual and pull it outward. To reinstall, ensure it rests securely on the support brackets and push inward until it locks into place.
Leveling: An adjustable leveling leg at the bottom of the appliance allows for proper leveling. To adjust, turn the leg counter-clockwise until the top of the foot touches the cabinet bottom, then slowly turn it clockwise until the appliance is level.
Door Reversal: The manual provides detailed instructions for reversing the door swing, which involves removing hinges, the axis plate, door stop, and actuator, then reinstalling them on the opposite side. This process requires flipping the door 180 degrees to ensure the handle is on the correct side and that the rubber gasket creates a good seal.
Maintenance Features
Cleaning:
- Interior: Unplug the appliance before cleaning. Use a soft cloth and a solution of one tablespoon of baking soda per quart of water, or a mild detergent, to clean the inside.
- Removable Shelves: Wash shelves in a mild detergent solution, then dry and wipe with a soft cloth.
- Exterior: Clean the outside with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent.
- Door Seals: Keep the area where the door seals against the cabinet clean with a soapy cloth, then rinse with a damp cloth and let dry.
- Important Note: Do not use cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol, as they can damage the appliance's appearance. Avoid commercial or abrasive cleaners and sharp objects.
Power Failure: Most power failures are short and should not significantly affect the appliance's temperature if the door opening is minimized. For longer outages, take steps to protect contents. If operation is interrupted, wait 3 to 5 minutes before restarting the appliance.
Vacation:
- Short Vacations (less than three weeks): Leave the appliance operating.
- Long Vacations (several months): Remove all items, turn off the appliance, clean and dry the interior thoroughly to prevent odor and mold growth, and leave the door slightly open, blocking it if necessary.
Moving:
- Ensure the appliance is empty.
- Secure the door with tape.
- Turn the adjustable leg up to the base to prevent damage.
- Protect the exterior with a blanket or similar item.
- Keep the appliance upright during transportation. If it is placed on its back or side, allow it to remain upright for 6 hours at the destination before plugging it in to avoid damage to internal components.
Disposal: The product's marking indicates it should not be disposed of with other household waste in the EU. It should be recycled responsibly through return and collection systems or by contacting the retailer to promote sustainable reuse and prevent harm to the environment and human health from uncontrolled waste disposal.
