Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a Danby Wine Cooler, model DWC134KD1BSS. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring safe and efficient use of the appliance.

Function Description

The Danby Wine Cooler is designed for household use to store wine bottles at optimal temperatures. It features two independent temperature zones: an upper chamber and a lower chamber. The upper chamber has a default temperature setting of 6°C and can be adjusted between 5°C and 10°C. The lower chamber has a default temperature setting of 12°C and can be adjusted between 10°C and 18°C. This dual-zone capability allows for the storage of different types of wine, each requiring specific temperature conditions. The appliance is equipped with an automatic defrost function, eliminating the need for manual defrosting. Defrost water is channeled into a drip tray above the compressor, where it evaporates due to heat transfer.

Usage Features

The wine cooler is operated via a control panel located on the front of the appliance. The control panel includes a power indicator light, a power button, an upper display for the upper chamber's set temperature, a lower display for the lower chamber's set temperature, and dedicated buttons for adjusting the temperature in each chamber. The temperature adjustment buttons allow for 1° increments. Pressing and holding these buttons for 3 seconds will display the actual temperature inside the cabinet for 5 seconds before reverting to the set temperature.

The appliance also includes a light button to control the interior illumination. By default, the interior light turns on when the door is opened and off when it is closed. Users can set the light to continuous illumination by pressing and holding the light button for 5 seconds until "LP" is displayed. To revert to the default light function, the light button should be pressed and held for 5 seconds until "LF" is displayed.

Safety features include a Temperature Alarm, which sounds and displays "HI" if the inner cabinet temperature exceeds 23°C for one hour, or "LO" if it drops below 0°C. A Door Ajar Alarm will sound if the door is not closed completely for 5 minutes. The appliance also has a Temperature Memory feature, which retains the set temperature settings in case of a power loss.

The wine cooler has a maximum capacity of 46 standard 750 ml Bordeaux wine bottles. The upper chamber can hold 16 bottles, and the lower chamber can hold 30 bottles. Bottles should be stored head-to-tail to maximize storage capacity. The shelves are designed for easy removal and reinstallation; to remove a shelf, tilt it as shown in the manual and pull it outward. To reinstall, ensure it rests securely on the support brackets and push inward until it locks into place.

The manual also describes a "Demo Mode" which can be activated to showcase the appliance's appearance and fan operation without running the compressor. In this mode, all alarms and beeping are disabled. Demo mode can be engaged or disengaged by pressing and holding the up and down temperature adjustment buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is essential for maintaining the appliance. Before cleaning, the wine cooler must be unplugged. The interior can be cleaned with a soft cloth and a solution of one tablespoon of baking soda per quart of water, or a mild detergent. Removable shelves should be washed in a mild detergent solution, then dried and wiped with a soft cloth. The exterior should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. Special attention should be given to the area where the door seals against the cabinet, cleaning it with a soapy cloth and rinsing with a damp cloth. It is crucial not to use cleaners containing ammonia or alcohol, as these can damage the appliance's appearance. Abrasive cleaners or sharp objects should also be avoided.

For short vacations (less than three weeks), the appliance can be left operating. For long vacations (several months), it is recommended to remove all items, turn off the appliance, clean and dry the interior thoroughly, and leave the door slightly ajar to prevent odor and mold growth.

When moving the appliance, ensure it is empty, secure the door with tape, and turn the adjustable leg up to the base to prevent damage. The outside should be protected with a blanket or similar item. It is important to keep the appliance in an upright position during transportation. If it is placed on its back or side, it must be allowed to stand upright for approximately 6 hours at the destination before plugging it in to avoid damage to internal components.

The manual also provides instructions for door reversal, which can be performed to change the door's swing direction. This process involves carefully removing and reinstalling hinges, the axis plate, door stop, and actuator, and flipping the door 180 degrees. Gloves and safety goggles are recommended for this procedure.

In case of a power failure, the appliance's temperature memory will retain settings, and normal functioning will resume automatically once power is restored. If the power outage is prolonged, steps should be taken to protect the contents. After any interruption in operation, a 3 to 5 minute wait is advised before restarting the appliance.

The manual concludes with troubleshooting tips for common issues such as no power, internal temperature not being cold enough, continuous running, condensation, excessive noise, and the door not closing properly, guiding users to potential causes and solutions.
