The d&b 5D amplifier is a power amplifier designed for installation purposes, intended for use with applicable d&b loudspeakers. It supports a LINEAR setup, allowing it to function as a linear installation power amplifier. The device complies with electromagnetic compatibility requirements of EN 55032:2019 for Class B (residential) environments. Users should be aware that acoustic interference and malfunctions may occur if the unit is operated near high-frequency transmitters (e.g., wireless microphones, mobile phones), though damage to the device is unlikely.

Usage Features:
Rack Mounting and Cooling:
The amplifier comes with a dedicated rack mount kit, offering various mounting options:
- Single device into 9.5" racks or cabinets, or either left or right into 19" racks or cabinets.
- Two devices side-by-side into 19" racks or cabinets.
- Single device underneath tables or other suitable surfaces.
When mounting into racks or cabinets, the rack ears allow for flat or offset mounting. For optimal stability, it is strongly recommended to fix the device at both its front and rear-mounted rack ears using appropriate screws and U washers. Alternatively, shelves fixed to the inner sides of the equipment rack or cabinet can be used. An extra depth of 150 mm / 6" is usually sufficient for cables and connectors at the rear.
The amplifier is equipped with a temperature-controlled fan that draws cool air from the front into the housing and channels warm air towards the back. To ensure operational safety:
- Ensure adequate rear airflow.
- Do not block or cover the front panel air intake or the vents on the rear panel.
- If amplifiers are installed in sealed cabinets, use additional fan modules with filters that can be easily replaced without opening the sealed cabinet.
- Do not stack the amplifier together with other devices producing additional heat with opposing airflow.
Connections:
- Mains Connection: A 3-pin IEC-60320 C14 mains connector socket is fitted on the rear panel, with an appropriate power cord supplied. Always connect to mains power supplies with protective earth.
- Analog Audio Input/Link (IN A1-A4): Four 3-pin Euroblock connectors (male) are provided for analog inputs. These can also be used as cable taps to feed the input signal to the next device in the signal chain.
- ETH1/ETH2 - Dante: Dual Ethernet ports with a built-in 2-port Ethernet switch (1 Gbits/100 Mbits) enable standard remote control via the d&b Remote network (OCA/AES70 and SNMP IP address:Auto (DHCP+LL) or Manual), as well as digital audio networking. It supports daisy-chain or star-wiring topology, though star-wiring is strongly recommended. The device is Dante enabled and accepts four Dante RX channels (Primary only).
- OUTPUTS (A, B, C, D): The amplifier is equipped with two Euroblock connector sockets (female), one for each pair of amplifier output channels (A/B, C/D). All pins of both output connectors are hardwired and permanently driven using the following pin assignment: + Amp A (B, C, D), - Amp A (B, C, D) neg.
- GPI/DC (General Purpose Input): Up to four GPI pins are available, providing either high-level (7 - 30 VDC) or low-level (0 - 5 VDC) triggering. A VCA functionality is incorporated to allow connection of an external, linear potentiometer (10 kOhms).
- FAULT: An additional 3-pin Euroblock fault contact is provided, allowing a general device error to be remotely indicated.
Controls and Indicators:
- Mains Power Switch: An on/off rocker switch is located on the left of the rear panel. "OFF" means internal power supplies are off but connected to mains. "ON" means the unit is switched on and ready for operation.
- RESET (System Reset): A recessed push-button is located on the rear panel above the ETH1 network connector. To perform a system reset, switch off the device, press and hold the RESET button, repower the device, and then release and briefly press the button again within 2 seconds. This will reboot the device and set all preferences to factory defaults, except for network and fixed device settings.
- Status Indicators (LEDs) on the front panel:
- POWER (Green): Permanent (Power on), Flashing (Standby).
- DATA (Yellow): Permanent (Network cable connected), Flashing (Data stream transmitted).
- MUTE (Red): Mute status of the respective channel. Also acts as Error indicators: Single flash for Channel error, Double flash of all Channel mute LEDs for Device Error.
- Signal LED (Multi color):
- Off: No signal present.
- Green (ISP - Input Signal Present): Analog input signal exceeds -30 dBu or Dante input signal exceeds -57 dBFS.
- Yellow (GR - Gain Reduction): Limiter reduces signal by ≥3 dB.
- Red (OVL - Overload): Any signal within channel exceeds -2 dBFS, DSP suffers from internal EQ filter overflow, any limiter causes gain reduction of 12 dB or more, or output signal is limited to prevent distortion due to output peak current overload.
Maintenance Features:
Service:
The device incorporates a lithium battery, which may pose an explosion risk if not replaced correctly. Replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel authorized by d&b audiotechnik. The device should not be opened as there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Servicing is required if objects or liquids have entered the device, if it does not operate normally, or if it has been dropped or the housing is damaged.
Maintenance and Care:
During normal operation, the amplifier provides maintenance-free service. Due to the cooling concept, no dust filters are required, eliminating the need for filter exchange or cleaning.
