Overview

The Datalogic SG BODY Reflector Muting Safety Light Curtains are optoelectronic multibeam devices designed for the protection of working areas that may pose a danger to operators due to moving parts in machines, robots, and automatic systems. These safety light curtains are manufactured in accordance with international safety standards, including EN 61496-1:2013, EN 61496-2:2013, EN ISO 13849-1:2008, EN 61508-1:2010, EN 61508-2:2010, EN 61508-3:2010, EN 61508-4:2010, and EN 62061:2005/A1:2013.

The device consists of two main units: an active unit and a passive unit. The active unit contains both emitting and receiving optic groups, while the passive unit is composed of two or more pre-assembled and pre-aligned deviating mirrors within a sturdy aluminum profile. Infrared beams generated by the active unit's emitting optic group are reflected by the passive unit's mirrors and guided back to the active unit's receiving optic group, creating a detection field. If an object or operator's body interrupts one or more of these beams, the receiver immediately opens the OSSD (Output Signal Switching Device) outputs, blocking the machine.

Key features of the SG BODY series include:

  • No dead zone: Ensures comprehensive protection without unprotected areas.
  • New engineering of passive unit: Improved design for enhanced performance.
  • Shorter response time: Faster reaction to interruptions, contributing to increased safety.
  • Muting function customization: Allows tailoring of the muting function to specific application needs.
  • Override function customization: Provides flexibility in configuring the override function.

The SG BODY series offers various models to suit different muting applications:

  • T-shaped models: Integrate muting sensors for bidirectional muting, ideal for applications requiring object passage in both directions.
  • L-shaped models: Integrate muting sensors for unidirectional muting, suitable for one-way object passage.
  • Linear models: Available without integrated muting sensors, these can be converted into T-shaped or L-shaped models using muting arm accessories. They are recommended for difficult or particular applications where sensor positioning needs to be carried out by the operator.

The muting arms utilize retro-reflex sensor technology and support a maximum operating distance of 3 meters for the light curtain. The active unit is equipped with command and control functions, with connections made via an M12 connector located on the lower side of the profile. A microprocessor manages the beams and provides diagnostic information through LEDs and a display. During installation, a user interface assists with aligning both units.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Mode: Detailed precautions for device choice and installation, including minimum installation distance, distance from reflecting surfaces, and distance between homologous devices.
  • Mechanical Mounting: Instructions for side fixing brackets, rotating brackets, bottom fixing brackets, vibration dampers, and mechanical muting arms mounting.
  • Electrical Connections and Configuration: Important notes for installation, minimal connection diagrams, and complete dip-switch configurations for SG4-RB...-W and SG4-RB...-N models. This includes connections for restart mode, reset/restart button, external relays, EDM control, muting enable input, muting arms/function inputs, override, and earth.
  • Functioning Mode: Explanations of SG4-RB...-W and SG-RB...-N configurations, reset function, restart mode selection, EDM function, and muting function.
  • Muting Function: Allows temporary disabling of the safety function to permit material passage. Different configurations (T-shaped, L-shaped, parallel-beam) are supported, with specific timing diagrams and formulas for calculating parameters like interaxis distance, activation time, and object speed.
  • Override Function: Enables forcing a muting condition when machine reset is needed, even if beams are interrupted. This is useful for clearing accumulated material. The function can be activated at start-up or during runtime, with specific activation sequences and time limits.
  • Alignment Function: A system to inform the user about alignment quality. The alignment mode is activated by pressing the external normally closed push-button linked to the RESET/RESTART/RESTART MODE line for at least 0.5 seconds at start-up. A one-digit display and blinking lamps indicate the alignment level.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodical Maintenance: A list of recommended checks and maintenance operations to be carried out by qualified personnel. This includes verifying the ESPE's SAFE state, alignment, OSSD output behavior, response time, safety distance, and physical condition.
  • Cleaning: Optic protective front surfaces must be cleaned regularly with soft cotton cloths damped in water to avoid reducing the operating distance. Alcohol, solvents, wool, synthetic cloths, paper, or abrasive materials should not be used on plastic or painted surfaces.
  • Product Disposal: Datalogic recommends disposing of the product in compliance with local laws or by contacting authorized waste collection centers.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 36-month warranty. Datalogic is not liable for damages caused by non-observance of correct installation and usage. Non-functioning devices should be returned for repair or replacement.
