asserrtbly
to ensure
adequate
lubncalion when
starting
The
special
flared
type
valve
stem seals should
be
Installed below the
spnng
retamers
with the
flared end
posllioned
over the ends of
the
valve
gUides
Use
care
when
compressing
the yalve
spnngs
to avoid
damage
to
the
seals
Ensure that the
valve
retamlng
collets
are
fully seatmg
In the valve stem
grooves
before
releasmg
the
spnng
compressor
TO
ADJUST
VALVE CLEARANCE
Valve clearance
may
be
adjusted
either
hot
or cold
If
the
cylinder
head
has been
removed from
the
vehicle then
It
wrll be
found more convement
to
adjust
the
valve
clearance
With the
cylinder
head
sitting
on
the
work bench
If
the valve clearance
IS
adjusted
cold
It IS sttll adVIsable
to recheck
the clearance when
the
engme
S hot and make
any necessary
readjustments

hoses and
the heater
hoses where
apphcable

the fuel
pipe
from the Inlet

of
the
fuel
pump
and detach
the
throttle

from the
carburettor

torque
converter
coohng pipes

pipes
